It would be easy to say I've loved Boar's Head since the weekend I first visited (and, in short order, decided to attend) UVa, but that would undersell all the things that make staying there so special whenever I've been back to Charlottesville. Quintessentially Virginian and uniquely timeless, Boar's Head fuses its surrounds' entrenched sense of history with accommodations and amenities that are elegant, but also comfortable and modern. This past trip, we got to really enjoy using the pool and very well-appointed Sports Club facilities, and the updated room decor was an inviting surprise. It may be true that not all Boar's Head rooms are created equal, but do your homework, be specific about what you want, and take advantage of the out-of-room amenities, and you won't be disappointed.

We really enjoyed staying at The Boar's Head for a mini honeymoon after our wedding. We were treated like royalty, receiving a complimentary upgrade as well as chocolate covered strawberries delivered to our room! Highly recommend!!!

We had a great 3 night stay at the Boar's Head. While there, we enjoyed the pools, free bikes and fishing in the ponds (unfortunately didn't catch any fish). The grounds and rooms are very nicely maintained and the kids loved the 3 pools to play in. The smallest bike they had was a little big for our 6yr old daughter but she enjoyed the challenge. My 9yr old son liked riding the surrounding hills. We also had two nice casual dinners at the bistro, on the deck one night and inside the next. The only negative of the trip was the homemade sorbet, do not try the lemon flavored!, which is somehow more bitter than a lemon itself.

Spent a weekend for a wedding reception at the Boar's Head Inn and it was fabulous. The professional and friendly service began with the front desk to the bellhop service and continued throughout the weekend. The food in the Old Mill Room and the wedding reception was exceptional with variety. Had a king room with a balcony, which was very nice for the morning and evening. Rooms very clean. I would recommend this and we did not have enough time to take advantage of the golf course, spa facilities or Sports Club, although other people that utilized them had rave reviews.

My husband and I took a quick trip to Charlottesville sans kids for some wine tasting and R&R. We wanted an "Inn" experience, and by descirption and photos, this place fit the bill. The room itself was nicely appointed, though for $255 a night, I would have expected a terrace / balcony. The air conditioning was not really working fully, so the room was a bit stuffy. And the sound carries quite a bit, so we heard a lot of ambient noise in the hallways.

The facility offered a lot- outdoor pools, a spa, and a very nice restaurant. However, the sports complex was largely in use by families (which was fine- they have a dedicated "adults only" pool), but when we visited the smaller secluded pool, there were no towels, no attendants in site, and the steam room and saunas were unavailable. The facilities looked like they were in an overall need of a face lift, and given the cost, and the additional $8 fee for the "resort", I will plan to spend my money and time in an other location the next time I visit Charlottesville.

Room Tip: Make sure you request a specific room with a balcony, etc... otherwise you might not get a room with...

I'm having trouble writing this review because it almost sounds too good to be true. But, the experience my husband and I had at the Boar's Head was fabulous. We chose a room with a balcony, which we enjoyed. The room was decorated in a warm and inviting way and was very clean. We were a walk away from the Old Mill Room where we had several meals and each one was just perfect. Just as perfect was the service. Everyone was friendly, professional and helpful. I had no trouble finding plenty to eat, even with my many dietary restrictions. Lots to do on the grounds: spa, sports club -- lots of tennis courts, pools, a walking trail around the lake, etc. I arrived stressed and left relaxed and happy. Only saw a little of UVa which we found a little difficult to get around by car. Made a trip to Monticello which was nice, although I'm not big on tours. Plan on returning to Charlottesville -- would stay at the Boar's Head and perhaps visit a few vineyards.

We stayed at the Boar's Head for three nights while our daughter attended a UVA camp. It really was the best place to stay! The Sports Club allowed us to get a workout in each day and the grounds were great for walking. We did not eat in the nicer restaurant but the Bistro allowed us to relax and grab a drink. Even the room service menu was inexpensive! I highly recommend Boar's Head Inn!
