“Just go”

Don't miss out on your chance to see the last active space shuttle. If you're flying in our out of Washington, it's an excellent stop to combine with your way in our out.

“It's a bird, it's a PLANE!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2013

Docent tour with Jim Peacock was so informative. Volunteers conduct the tours and there is no admission charge. $15. for parking. All the major air entries in history of aviation are located here, right close to Airport grounds. Watch planes take off from an observation tower and witness the complex air traffic controllers work day. AND shuttle Discovery is housed here, unaltered since its last flight. Lots of children, strollers, wheelchairs (available at security desk), but very roomy floor space and observation bridges. IMAX offerings $. Fab Vacay day!

“An absolute must place to see near DC for Aviation/Space fans”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2013

This museum is free to enter just like any other Smithsonian but parking is $15.
But don't let that bother you because you are in for a day worth of treat (There is McD inside).

There is an IMAX inside as well and they honor previous IMAX purchases from other Smithsonian museums to give you discount tickets. This always works out best because they have pretty good shows going on year round.

The museum is inside a giant hanger and has over 300 air crafts on display and a space shuttle (Discovery), tons of bombs/missiles/rockets and satellites. There are enough information cards next to exhibits.
The arrangements is done to maximize the space utilization and may feel like cramped up because there are air crafts hanging over head in more than two levels.

The best part is they have free guided tours. They are few elderly guides but they are always busy. Do get in line to register for free tour or just tag along a session in progress.

This is a best thing for kids because they can enjoy the museum without parents having to explain them everything. The ramp levels work out the best to get the best view of floor and take some good snaps with unique views.

The space shuttle is main attractions located near the "black bird" where people like to hang out the most.

“Best Museum Ever!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2013

Visited the center July 24th 2013 and had a great time. The museum was awesome, and had tons of aircraft to see. Is was a perfect place to visit first, my kids really enjoyed seeing the Blackbird from the movie transformers and the space shuttle. The observation tower was great, we were able to listen to pilots talking to Dulles tower and see the planes landing. The museum had a excellent layout and it did not feel crowded or confined. I would recommend you become a member of the Smithsonian, only 12.00 dollars. The membership allowed the family to receive 10% discount on the gifts we bought at all the museums. It paid for itself over the 4 day trip. I will be back!

“Great DC attraction away from DC”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2013 via mobile

Whether you live around the corner or are staying at a suburban hotel on Dulles corridor. This is a great 2-3 hour visit to actually see all the planes up close, the Shuttle, Stealth Bomber/Fighter, etc. and then catch an IMAX film. Great for those of us living in LoCo, great for all.
