This hotel is fine for a conference- totally over the top decor with glitz but no style. Faciliities are minimal- the "shop" is hardly ever open.
But it's comfortable if boring.
You'd need a car if you were planning to use it as a base.

Excellent place to stay if you have a car and are travelling with family. They had a pool which was quite warm. Hot tub was horrible though and just a few degrees warmer then the pool. Location was awesome for getting to the Air and Space Museum and the metro to catch a train to the Mall - Smithsonian. Restaurants for family wihin 10 minutes driving. Love the trees and the privacy - did not feel like we were in a city so it was nice and quiet. Room was great and clean and lots of room. There was high speed internet (not wireless) for $12.95 night. The pub food was okay but pricey for what you got. We mostly ate out at nearby restaurants. There is a Starbucks booth set up in the morning. The gym was one of the better ones I've been too - Strac trac equipment and Cybex machines. Staff was okay. Overall would totally stay there again. 15 minutes for the Leesburg Outlet too!

We decided to stay here because my wife was arriving into Dulles around 7PM and we did not want to deal with driving in town. In addition, this hotel has a four star rating from AAA--and that means it should be ok right? I was in town for business so I went to the hotel early to check-in. That is when the adventure started. The check-in line was six people deep and took about 20 minutes because there was only one person behind the desk.

Second, when I went to the website the hotel appeared to have a cool hotel bar and nice restaurant, both of which were supposed to be open late. Amazingly for a Friday night, they closed the restaurant before we even got back from the airport (7:45). Next, they had closed the pub for a private investment banker's function. Alas--they set up a temporary set of tables in the lobby with a roll-out TV. What a joke, and we only were able to order from the bar menu--which was horrible by the way.

The rest of the experience was par for the course for a Marriott, but this is the worst overall hotel experience I have had in a while.

I stayed here for a conference. I can't image any of reason to stay, unless you need a place to camp out the night before a flight out of Dulles. The hotel is a large brick building that looks like a Georgian mansion. It has the feel as you drive up of being in the countryside. The rooms are above average and mine was very clean. The room had a flyer braging about being high-tech, but it did not have wireless Internet. It is a fairly standard Marriott property, but I'd say it is more upscale and the rooms are in better condition. If you don't valet there is a walk from the free parking. It has 2 restaurants on site, and a fair amount with 5-7 range of the property. This property does appear geared towards conventions. The staff are nice but fairly unknowledgeable. Two sent me to the wrong room wing, which was inconvenient and a bit of a hike from one side to the other.

One of the best Marriott properties, this is a Colonial-style four-story hotel with several loooonnng wings that may involve a long hike from the lobby to your room. I stay here four or fives times a year to visit one of the government contractors nearby. The rooms and, especially, the bathrooms are clean and sparkling. Surrounded by trees and landscaped grounds, the windows in the rooms open to let in the fresh air. It is a unique, park-like, peaceful setting and there is no traffic noise and only a little airport noise. Despite the setting, the property is close to major roads and a wide variety of restaurants are a short drive away. (Nothing is in walking distance except office buildings, and a car is needed here.) Staff are helpful and efficient. The fitness room is excellent and well equipped.

Negatives: it is a long walk from the parking lot along a footpath and in the winter the snow and ice are not always cleared promptly or well. One day I hope that Marriott will offer wireless in the rooms or at least provide a longer cord so that we are not tethered to the desk to use our computers. Afternoon rush hour traffic between the hotel and the airport is slow and congested, and it has taken an hour to drive the10-mile distance.

Overall, though, this is one of the nicest hotels in the area and the price is usually comparable to those of the next tier down.
