We camped at Kiptopeke State Park for 5 days over the July 4th holiday. We have a travel trailer and were able to get one of the full hookup sites that was in the shade, right next to the campground hosts.
If you just want to camp and go to the beach, this is a nice place to stay. It's clean and the beach, though very small, was nice. We weren't sure we would enjoy a bay beach, but the water was warm, there was no grass, etc on the bottom, and though the beach was crowded at times, the people were mostly respectful of those around them. There is a nice bath house at the parking lot, which is a huge benefit. Even on this busy weekend, parking was not a problem.
The campground was neat and mostly clean. I don't like the inability to pick a site ahead of time, because very few of the sites are shaded...and it's hot and sunny! The bathhouse was decent, though...kept as clean as one could expect.
My biggest issue is that it was too remote for us. We like to be able to go out to get a meal and find something else to do. I guess if we were willing to pay the cost of the bridge back and forth we would have had lots of options but we just wanted to grab a bite to eat that I didn't have to cook. Good luck around here. There is really not much of anything. Cape Charles seems quaint but the food options are very few as well and we didn't have very good experiences at the places we went to.
We most likely will not be back here but mostly because it doesn't fit what we look for in a beach camping vacation. Our favorite spot is in Murrels Inlet, South Carolina and we were just looking for something closer.

This is truly one of the hidden gems of the Eastern Shore. The park has a weekly calendar of events from learning to fish to sunset kayaking all offered for unbelievably affordable prices. In addition, there is a very nice swimming beach and tons of hiking/biking trails. We did both the fishing and the kayaking and were very impressed with the rangers who walked us through each activity every step of the way. If you are a history buff you will love seeing the WWII concrete ships that serve as a breakwater and will be the highlight of any kayaking tour or rental. I couldn't recommend this place more highly.

The camp sites are large enough to fit a 8-10 person tents. The sites are used for both tents and trailers. The site has both bathrooms and hot showers. There are showers on the beach as well if there is a need to remove the salt before going back to the camp site. The beach is extremely private and extremely clean. The water dept is perfect for kids because is not very deep at all. Overall, if you are looking for a new camp site, I would recommend Kiptopeke as your next destination. You won't regret it.

Just a sweet little well run park with helpful staff and great sea views. Hiking, fishing and even overnight accommodations are all you could want in a State Park.
