“If I could, I would give them 5-1/2 stars excellent service and food!”
Reviewed July 10, 2014

My wife and I made reservations at L'Auberge Provencale for the 'Hot Dates' special which includes the rate for one suite, $75.00 credit for dinner at its restaurant and a repast meal, with a bottle of wine which is a great deal and gourmet breakfasts(thank you Allison for all of your attention at breakfast). Since we checked in we were greeted like old friends, with lemonade, cookies, and nuts. Ally(I believe I got her name right) was very helpful and gracious in getting our suite ready since we arrived earlier than expected, also she had us the maps, directions and suggestions to visit vineyards such a Glen Manor, Linden and Fox Meadows, all very good., as well as Copper Fox Distillery for Single Malt Whiskey The dinner that evening was stupendous, haute cuisine, and the service was excellent and the food was 'once in a lifetime'. Besides visiting the mentioned vineyards visited and hiked Shenandoah National Park, and visited the Luray Caverns. The suite was beautiful in shades of pastel yellow, it included artisanal well water, ice, a/c, Direct TV, a fireplace(not used during the summer), a full bath/shower with steam, private toilet. What else can you ask from this wonderful property with its herb and lavender garden? Thank you Celeste, Ally, Allison, Joshua and the rest of the wonderful staff at L'Auberge Provencale for wonderful, unforgettable experience!

Room Tip: Ask for any of the suites at the lower level, with views of the garden.

My husband and I have been celebrating our anniversary at L'auberge for many years. Everything about this inn is beautiful. The gardens are gorgeous - there are flowers everywhere. The room we stayed in this time (9) was so charming with a fireplace, beautiful tiling in the bathroom and windows looking out on the gardens. Dinner was fantastic - our compliments to the chef! The cuisine was playful and delicious - service very good. On Sunday we always go to their other inn down the road and enjoy the pool. If you love good food, charming decor, and feeling like you are in France - you will love this inn!

Room Tip: All the rooms are charming, but room #9 is especially sweet with windows overlooking the gardens.

We've stayed here since it opened, and always enjoy our visit--this time on the eve of our 50th wedding anniversary. The dinner was great (extraordinary haute cuisine, with every feature of a world class restaurant provided in spades), wonderful menu, and the breakfast the next morning ("our day") completely satisfying. Our waitress from the evening before cheerfully assisted (again) in getting us photos, in the midst of preparations for a large wedding. The decor -- above all the tile-work -- remains enchanting; the garden is for real, the landscaping around the front of the main house perfection, and the details of hospitality protocol nowhere slighted. (We'd change the paint color in the bathroom of Room 8, but very, very little else!) The desert plate for our anniversary was kindly observant of same--see picture. We've been to L'Oustau Beaumaniere (Les Baux, France), back in its heyday (3 stars Guide Michelin), and here's its little sister in Northern Virginia. Long may it live!

Room Tip: I suspect all rooms are fine--we have stayed in the main house very happily, but I tend now to favor...

My husband and I stayed at L'Auberge Provençal B&B last weekend to celebrate our first anniversary. Upon arrival we were welcomed with ice-cold lemonade, fresh fruit and a delicious assortment of desserts. Everything, including our room (#12), was ornately decorated and the quiet atmosphere and beautiful grounds (including pool area) made it very easy to relax and unwind! Breakfast began with homemade granola, yogurt, and fresh fruit and continued with delicious homemade breads, a choice for our main course, and bottomless coffee. On both mornings we ate outside in the beautiful backyard/pool area and breakfast was served by the owner, Alain, who, in addition to being a very talented chef, was very pleasant to talk to and obviously very passionate about what he does.

We had our anniversary dinner at their restaurant, La Table Provençal, and from the extensive wine selection, to the amuse-bouche and three course dinner (including additional surprises throughout, such as the palette cleanser, "Shenandoah Mountain Dew") I can honestly say it was one of the best meals we've ever had. This was beyond a night out to dinner, it was a completely romantic and intimate experience with attentive staff, excellent service, and culinary perfection.

If you are looking for a romantic getaway with beautiful accommodations, amazing food and service, and access to local wineries and outdoor activities, choose L'Auberge Provençal, you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the villas!

Such a great time of year to visit L'Auberge Provencale and our Villa La Campagnette! Only the freshest and best are served to our customers and we strive to give a warm welcome to all.
Chef Joseph is creating, with out a doubt, fabulous food at dinner for our guests and we have over 1000 wines to accompany any taste. We are very glad you noted all the touches and enjoyed yourselves.
Hopefully, we will see you soon here at the inn! Thank you for the kind words.

I really wanted to love this bed and breakfast since I live in DC and wanted a nice escape but it just didn't really seem worth the price and I left feeling so disappointed with the experience.

My husband and I spent the night on a Saturday to celebrate his birthday. There was never any mention that we were celebrating his birthday even though I had made a note of it twice before arriving with whoever confirmed my reservations via email. When we arrived, there was also no one in the office so we had to walk to the Inn and wander about to check in.

The dinner itself was great and the food is delicious but the service was mediocre. The staff couldn't answer basic questions about ingredients on the menu or preparation. I asked if there were any vegetarian entree options and the waitress pointed to several fish options which just doesn't make sense. Vegetarians, this place is not friendly. The table clothes were also dirty and had stains in several places.

The room and setting were beautiful. We stayed in Room 8 because some reviewers noted that this part of the Inn is a bit more quiet. I didn't find that to be true. It was one of the worst nights of sleep that I've gotten in a while. The highway noise in front of the Inn is very loud. There's also a train that passes in the middle of the night and it woke us up despite having the windows closed and shades drawn. Weirdly, we could also hear the couple staying in the room next to us so they almost certainly could hear us which isn't very intimate or romantic. They were either very loud or the walls very thin because we could make out every word of their conversation from our bed.

It's a historic property with nice views but I don't think given my experience and the $500+ that I spent that I would return or recommend it to any friends.

We never like to hear that are guests had less than a stellar experience here at L'Auberge Provencale. Our menu consists of a 3, 4 course or chef's tasting menu. At this time we have many vegetarian choices on the menu every day. Currently, we have fresh pea soup, a gargouillou of fresh garden vegetables and a taste of gazpacho , fresh foraged hen of the woods (some call them chicken of the woods) which are wild mushrooms, a rainbow of beets with beat sorbet and Greek cultures, and Breaking tradition which is an infused vegetable broth with royal trumpets, burnt onion, Fried garden kale, fresh herbs and Parmesan capsules. All in the first two courses. The waitress certainly did not represent the restaurant or the kitchen as we always have risotto or fresh fettucini nightly which one can order for the main course. We frequently also offer a special vegan menu created by Chef Joseph as noted in other reviews of La Table Provencale. We have decided to just make a vegetarian prifix menu offered nightly, after reading of your confusion about the main course.
The train does pass by at about 5:30 in the morning and sometimes even though it is a couple of miles away, we get that lone whistle in the night that can be heard. In the evenings the traffic does quiet down when all have reached their destinations.
I wish we had known of your strife before leaving our inn. We would be happy to send a gift certificate to you to come and try again. Just give us a call and management would be delighted to extend some recompense.

Last night we discovered what might be the best kept dining secret in the Washington area at La Table restaurant in the L'auberge Provencale B&B in White Post VA.
Chef Joseph Watters, who just started in November, is offering the most creative and satisfying dishes in the area that now give The Inn at Little Washington, Citronelle and Citizen a run for their money. We checked into The Inn on a whim at 4:30 in the afternoon on a Friday night. A few rooms were available but we chose the least expensive which proved to be more comfortable and cozy than we expected. We requested the first available dinner seating at 6:00 and told the host that we were both Vegan which didn't give the Chef much time to prepare. But a special printed menu was presented to us when we arrived which was fully explained by the accommodating staff. Starting with the amuse bouche which featured not one, but three, palette teasers was followed by an amazing plating of fresh vegetables from their own garden, which was truly a work of culinary art. Next came an infusion of mushroom broth with fresh herbs served over seared onion leafs topped with an amazing baby Parmesan ball, (I'm "mostly" vegan but had to try this), all prepared table side in what appeared to be an Art Deco scientific beaker that heated the broth up through the herbs creating amazing aroma and flavors. Meanwhile, my wife's beet plate was as flavorful as it was artistic with a variety of fresh beets fanned across a plate drizzled with a beet sorbet and topped with petite herbs and micro flowers. Our entrée was toasted quinoa served above a warm baba ganoush base and finished with baby vegetables, herbs and flowers. To cleanse our pallets a unique glass of what was described as a Shenandoah Mountain Dew added humor to this serious yet playful meal. For dessert we were served a trio of sorbet with fresh blueberrys that exploded with flavor. One last unexpected finale was a glass bowl with dry ice displaying an assortment of miniature shortbbreads, chocolate drops and gelatin strips. Although my wife loved it, I felt this last presentation was perhaps the only flaw in an otherwise perfect meal as it's drama overshadowed culinary perfection. The service was flowing without being stuffy while the extensive wine and drink list kept us both happy.
We can't say enough about this amazing dining experience. Thank you's go out to the attentive owner Celeste, her son/sommelier Christian and their staff. A special acknowledgment goes to Chef Joseph Watters who we predict will make La Table a true culinary destination.
