The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center
Ranked #2 of 10 Hotels in Blacksburg
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed December 10, 2011

The service was very good. For the most part the staff are part of the VT hotel & restaurant program. The food was well prepared with good presentation. It was a great place to hold a business meeting. One caution is be careful where you obtain a room because I had problems with wifi connection.

We stayed here because my husband attended a 2-day class in Blacksburg (but not at VT). The hotel was very nice, the rooms were comfortable and clean. The breakfast was served buffet style at the cost of $12.00 plus any drinks you ordered. Even though there were alot of choices, nothing tasted too exceptional, so we went across the street to Kroger and bought some breakfast food to eat in our room the other 2 mornings. There was a nice display of Christmas trees and decorations in the conference center, which put us in the holiday mood. Driving out of the hotel and across the road, there was a Panera, a few sub shops, and small restaurants, and Kroger, but no shopping. Christiansburg is about 6 miles away and offers the big stores and restaurants you can find in all major cities. All in all, I would stay again, but wouldn't be against trying the Holiday Inn across the street either.

This hotel is located on the VT campus and is built right in the beautiful style of the classical campus buildings but is only a few years old. My husband and I here stayed at the Inn for about a week, attending a conference at the Skelton Conference Center on the hotel premises. Even though more than 50 conference attendees had a booking at the hotel and checking in on the same day, check in was only possible from 4 p.m. The reception staff was blaming this on the hotel being fully booked the night before because of a VT football game but I think given the size of our group this could have been better organized, allowing everyone to get into their rooms earlier. We were booked in a suite which was really spacious and had cozy furniture. Housekeeping didn't seem to do that good a job as hair dropped on the batroom floor stayed there for several days. How well the floor in the other rooms of our suite was cleaned we couldn't really tell because of the carpets. We liked the fact that we could open the windows. The bar is worth visiting.

We just stayed two nights at the Inn at Virginia Tech. It is expensive and during football season there is a two night minimum. For the price, they should have flat screen TVs in the rooms. The breakfast buffet is good but expensive too.
They do not have a pool or hot tub onsite. You can use the college facilities but who wants to do that???
It is very clean and you really can't beat the location. So, I guess if you've got plenty of $$$ it's good. For us, we expected a little more for our hard earned dollars.

Dear VTHokieNorthCarolina:
Thank you for staying with us during your visit to Blacksburg for the football game. We do charge premium rates and require a two-night minimum during football game events, With the demand for those events, our competition does the same. We are always working to bring improvements to our facilities and services and we expect to convert to flat-screen televisions during 2012. We hope you will return to see the results of our improvement efforts..

can't beat this place for convenience. on campus, across from new visitors center(admissions) and short walk to engineering buildings and shuttle bus too! beautiful hotel which is connected to vtech conference center. built with "hokie" stone with wide hallways and big parking lot to handle any crowds. very scenic with open space/farmland views from our room. based on previous reviews, was expecting small, noisy room. it was quiet as a peep, didn't hear anyone and very spacious - and hotel was fully booked!

this place is busy. besides family weekend, there were two weddings that weekend, besides campus organization activities. but you wouldn't know it, except we saw bride and groom walking in! the staff really handle the traffic well - friendly, efficient and big smiles.

i was worried that i hadn't received email confirmation before our stay. had booked back in april, way early but it's family weekend! worried about overbooking and really not having a room upon arrival. had tried to call the hotel but kept getting voicemail for some person at the hotel.got transferred to general vt switchboard and they tried to patch through, same thing. so called my son while driving to school and asked him to go to hotel and call me so i could talk with front desk to confirm. yes, i was panicking.

son was good sport and humored his mom. he got to front desk and no worries - confirmed. spoke with incredibly understanding and friendly person who assured me that all was well. she apologized for not getting through by phone - they were ringing off the hook and waves of check-in's. calls were being automatically being routed to voice mail. but room was ready and son was sweet. think they know how to handle crazied parents and busy times!

Also, hotel has "parent's club" that gives future hotel discounts, restaurant discounts and other benefits to hokie families. sign-up is free and got nice welcome packet upon checkin.

got free breakfasts during stay - pretty nice with chef making custom omelets, french toast, sausage, fresh oatmeal, grits and fruit, pastries, and other goodies. they can open up private rooms for large crowds (wedding families...). but can get crowded. go early.

definitely the place to stay, not only for convenience but great views and relaxing surroundings. signup for parent's club and book early for best deals and availability. staff is very friendly and even has gift shop with hokie pillow pals which go fast!

Room Tip: we were on 3rd floor near end of long wing facing golf course/farmland. great views and could easily...

I attended a reception And it was so convenient to have it attached right to the Inn where we stayed. Rooms were expensive AND charged extra for parking, but the convenience of being in campus was worthwhile. The room had beautiful views and big windows. The sink area of the bathroom was nice but the showerhead was unexpectedly very cheap. Ate breakfast for $8.95 with a great buffet and custom omelets. We expected a higher breakfast price and were pleasantly surprised.

The Inn at Virginia Tech is a good place to stay if you're in Blacksburg for work, alumni events, visiting your child at VT or in town for a football/basketball game. You cannot beat the location of this hotel. The Inn is a 20 minute walk from downtown Blacksburg/Lane Stadium and the Basketball arena. The staff at the Inn at Virginia Tech were friendly. The hotel room wasn't very luxurious, but it was clean. If you're looking for luxury when you visit Virginia Tech - and you don't mind a 40 minute drive - look at Hotel Roanoke.
