“Taking a Breath of History”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

This little charm is located by the Virginia Tech University and was part of a pre civil war working plantation. This allows a glimpse of life and living during a gone by era. The house features original or restored furniture and the the guides are in period clothing. During special Holiday hours they seem to offer craft demonstrations. There is a small gift shop attached and makes for an enjoyable outing. I took my Mom ten years ago and she often remarked about how much she enjoyed it. She would refer to it often and we returned on a coupe of other occasions before we lost her. I have returned a couple of times without her, and though it will never be the same I would certainly recommend it as a "girls" day, a family outing, or a great way to start the Christmas Holidays. This is suitable for all ages and unlike, say Williamsburg, it takes an hour or two not a day or weekend, so it is an easy weekend work in event.

“Wedding events”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

We attended a wedding at Smithfield, including the rehearsal dinner which was on the lower pavilion. It's a relaxing setting, and the house was interesting, although the option was a "self-tour" for wedding guests. Be aware that the restrooms are not easily accessible!
