I stayed in this hotel from Sunday June 14th and checked out on Saturday 20th of 2009. The room was clean, the bed was new and so was the furniture. They had a refrigerator and a microwave that worked pretty good and the cable-TV and wireless internet connection worked great too. The hot water and the pipe system worked good, but the sink and tub are old and that is an improvement that could be made.
Overall I am very satisfied with my stay in this hotel. My non-smoker room was free from any smell. The location was good, it was at walking distance from a supermarket and from other commercial stores. It is 40 minutes walking distance from Virginia Tech, so I took the bus most days (only 50 cents each way). The bus frequency is about 30 minutes.

The persons that run this hotel were really nice, they were accommodating and really friendly. This is clearly a family business.

This is a good hotel for people that want to stay in a clean room, with all the amenities, and are on a budget. But if you are looking for a luxury hotel, clearly this is not the place for you.
I stayed in the Holiday Inn for a week a month before (just 10 minutes walking distance from V-tech), and sure Holiday Inn was better as a Hotel but I paid more than double what I paid here. So, I will stay here again for my next trip.

I booked a room here for the night before the Mountains of Misery bike ride. Due to my procrastination and the ride's popularity, pretty much everywhere else in town was booked solid. It pretty much seems like a place that caters to the procrastinators and last-minute Hokies ticket holders of the world and makes no apologies about it (note the VT-inspired exterior color scheme). As soon as I got my key and opened the room's door, I was nearly knocked flat by the smell of bleach. So much so that I turned around and walked right back out to catch my breath. I brought my suitcase in and turned on the air conditioner's fan and left for several hours, hoping there would be fresh air when I returned. No such luck. Once I returned, I decided to take a shower, only to find the bathroom fixtures to be the grade of quality you'd find in a prison or condemned school building. The bath tub didn't even have a drain plug, not that I was remotely tempted to take a bath there. The walls are painted cinder blocks--there's actually an echo, the carpet is unpadded outdoor patio stuff, and the bed felt like it had two box springs instead of a mattress. The towels and sheets felt like they'd never seen a drop of fabric softener. Being so close to Main Street Blacksburg, traffic noise is ever present. I would not expose a child to this place. I didn't expect the Beverly Hilton at this price point, but surely it didn't have to be this miserable! I'm usually pretty stoic about these things, but my stay here completely changed my appreciation for mainstream national chains. I'd have to say staying here was more miserable than the aptly named bike ride I did the following day.

Wireless Internet worked, the rooms where equipped with necessities like towels.
The cleanliness and shape of the hotel leaves very much to be desired. Especially when booking a Smoker's Room you will be hit in the face with an incredible stink. The AC/Heat System is noisy, not easy to adjust. Several lights did not work. Bed and covers where in terrible shape with burn holes in them.
Not the place you want to stay for more than the absolute minimum time. The operators are friendly and courteous, surely aware of the problems and seem to just... do nothing about it.
Good Luck!

I can't express enough how wonderful these people are. They were extremely accomodating. The room was comfortable and I was provided with all the necessities that was needed. The location is very convenient as well. This is ideal for a family vacation and for those who want some quiet. Yeah, I definitely recommend it!

This was one of our most disgusting stays in a hotel/motel. It was filthy. The ice bucket wasn't even clean and there were no bags to insert for clean ice. The pillows were about 9 inches thick and hard as a rock. The curtain was torn and hanging down on one corner. The refrigerator froze my milk solid on the bottom shelf. There are no electric recepticles anywhere near the bathroom for razor or hairdryer. It just wasn't what we expected for a Red Carpet Inn.

Not exactly the Bellagio but its fairly cheap for a place close to the Virginia Tech campus.
The good:
-It is not in Christiansburg
-Fairly clean on the interior
-Reasonably priced
-It was surprisingly quite when I stayed
-TV, Refrigerator, Microwave all decent and working
-Climate control unit is recent and works well
-Beds are decent

The Bad:
-The exterior it’s a bit rough around the edges, a bit of a scummy feeling.
-Interior is ok you have to put up with painted cinder block and painted brick walls.
-Bathroom was clean but a bit old, the tub had some pealing linoleum, you may want to avoid rubbing against the shower curtain.
-One of the windows had Venetian blinds with missing horizontal pieces; in place there was some masking tape to fill the void.
-I had one working light bulb in the room and one working in the bathroom.
-Pool, not open (not that I was planning on using it and this was early April)

Conclusion: Though I was only there to crash for two nights it may have been worth an extra $20 - $30 a night for a nicer place. You basically got what you paid for there can’t complain too much.
