We couldn't have asked for a better experience at Smithfield Farm. We were able to enjoy walking round the farm and relax in the hammock out back before retreating into the Summer Kitchen Cottage for the night to enjoy one another's company and cook a delicious dinner. The Summer Kitchen Cottage is perfect for a night away from home to enjoy one another! The property is absolutely breathtaking! Our breakfast was delicious and we loved how they integrated their family farm into it. You will leave nothing but happy from Smithfield Farm Bed and Breakfast!

It's hard to imagine a better experience than our stay at Smithfield Farm. The setting is beautiful and peaceful, the house and grounds are immaculate, the rooms and public spaces gracious and comfortable, the food outstanding and the hospitality amazing. Betsy and her mother, Ruth, epitomize southern hospitality and thoughtfulness to the degree that we felt like family. Lingering over an amazing breakfast (yes, the previous reviews are accurate) to hear about the 200 years their family has owned the farm was fascinating, and learning about its transformation from a fruit farm to a sustainable, organic, livestock operation was both funny and inspiring.

Room Tip: Our group stayed in the Wellford and Randolph rooms plus the English Garden Suite. All were very di...

We are just home from our third stay at Smithfield and, once again, we were terribly sad to have to pull away from such a lovely place. The other five star reviews are all correct; this B&B is outstanding in every way. Where to start? The surroundings are absolutely beautiful, a bucolic paradise. This time we were just in time to enjoy the blossoming crab apple, dogwoods, tulips, and daffodils by the house and the farm's lush, green pastures.

Each time, we enjoy walking the fields to visit the chickens, cows, pigs, and sheep, and it's a good feeling to support a family farm that raises such healthy, organic, free-range livestock in a sustainable way. As a native of the area, I am grateful to the Pritchards for the principled way they tend their land and animals.

With such delicious farm-fresh produce close at hand, breakfasts are delightful - the best B&B breakfasts we've ever had, in fact. There is always fruit, followed by home-made bread, and a hot entree featuring the farm's eggs and meats, and everything we've had has been truly delicious. This morning's biscuits were the best we've ever eaten, and I still swoon as I think of them topped with Smithfield's farm-raised honey.

Each time we've stayed, we've been in the Summer Kitchen Cottage, which has a very convenient little kitchen for times when we'd like to make our own lunches so as to spend the whole day lazing about the farm without driving out to a restaurant. To us its coziness and beautiful views make it the ideal setting for some serious R&R. It does have a fairly narrow wooden staircase, so for those who might have trouble with that, I'd recommend staying in the main house. The main house itself is gorgeous, and each of the rooms (we peeked) has it's own charms. All very spacious and simple yet elegant, in keeping with the architecture.

Finally, we must mention our very gracious hosts, the Pritchards. Betsy and Ruth have always been warm, friendly, informative, and very accommodating. They strike the perfect balance of being engaging without being at all overbearing or obtrusive. Their commitment to running a top notch B&B is evident, and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to enjoy their hospitality.

I have stayed at plenty of B&Bs in VA and this one is by far my favorite. I stayed several years ago but TripAdvisor won't go back any further than Jan 2013. Anyhow, the accommodations are gorgeous (the house has been completely and tastefully renovated) and the grounds are so peaceful. The breakfast was really good and there isn't a bad room in the place. It is well worth the drive and the money to stay here.

We stayed in the Jacqueline Room which was huge with a King four post bed that was really comfortable. It has a separate bathroom with a clawfoot tub and a shower across the hall. Had a funny episode with another guest that ran a bubble bath in our tub only to find that this was ours (they had a shower in their room!) We all had a good laugh. Lots of wonderful magazines and extras (fruit and cookies, water and other amenities). The Hostess/Owner was so nice meeting us and when we told her we had to leave really early she put together a breakfast basket and left it in our room! Very picturesque.

Room Tip: Jacqueline was huge but bath is across the hall. Slippers and robes are provided though. Not a probl...

My wife and I spent a very, very low-stress weekend at this B&B. An accident-initiated traffic jam made getting there a chore (oh, Washington!) but once out in the country things just naturally eased up. We found the place without difficulty: the directions are unambiguous and easy to follow. Betsy was not there to greet us, but her mother Ruth was more than up to the task of hostess and chef. Be sure to ask Ruth about Smithfield Farm's history. It's long (much, much older than Ruth), Ruth knows it well, and she's happy to share. We were served magnificent breakfasts. It's not often I don't need lunch, but on both days I had no hunger until dinner. And don't think I'm saying the place emphasizes quantity over quality. Every part of the meal was delicious. Part of the attraction is that the farm is still a working concern with attention to humanely raised food. Whatever you may think of that (I for one approve), you'll agree that the meats are better than anything you'll find in a supermarket.

We stayed in the Randolph Room. The main area is more than spacious. The bed was very comfortable. The shades can be drawn to filter out the morning light. We took advantage and slept in a little. Ruth is more than willing to sever breakfast on the later side.

The inn is well located for outdoor activities. We hiked around the farm's nature trail; we hiked the Appalachian Trail a little; we went into Winchester. We also hung around and read, something the inn invites. Coffee, tea, cookies, and fruits are always available.

Room Tip: The Randolph Room's only disadvantage is the small bathroom -- the website doesn't lie. Two...

We were so happy to find this spot just an hour away from DC...what a world of difference. It is a working farm and has been in the same family for generations. Ruth was the perfect host and made us feel welcome. We wandered around and visited some of the animals and browsed through the farm store. We sat on the front porch and in the back yard and just soaked in the surrounding beauty. We had a great dinner at Battletown Inn in Berryville and just really slowed down. We hope to go back later this year...we'd love to see the farm in all seasons. Oh, and last, but not least, the breakfast of quiche, fruit and sausage was just right.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Jacqueline room, which has a (huge) bathroom across the hall. This worked out very...
