Was looking for a pet-friendly, family-friendly hotel on an extended road trip and came across Peaks of Otter. Somewhat rustic, but very pleasant stay. Beautiful surroundings. Wish we had another day there.

Convenient location and friendly staff. Rooms are a little outdated, but still clean and comfortable. It's definitely not luxury accommodations, but you can't beat the location on the parkway. Perfect for a stop for rest while exploring the parkway.

My husband and I spent several days in southwest Virginia exploring the Crooked Road and listening to mountain music. Peaks of Otter Lodge was the stop for our first night on the road. It was a beautiful sight at the end of the day. The setting is truly lovely with stunning postcard-worthy views. The rooms of the lodge are simple, clean, and comfortable - - just right for that gorgeous setting. The staff is friendly and helpful. As one of the earlier posts states: It's a great quick get-a-way location!

We spent one night. Very relaxing. Had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and enjoyed both meals. Felt that there should be a few more lower cost options as some of the entrees looked great but were pricey on our budget. Staff is very helpful and friendly. The view is gorgeous! We could see fish jumping in the lake during our meals. Very easy access on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Room Tip: Ask for first floor so you can walk out onto a patio and have a lawn in front of your room that lead...

I love the Blue Ridge Parkway. The only thing better than driving the parkway and hiking some of it's trails, is staying at the Peaks of Otter Lodge. It is rustic, and pricey for outdated decor, but it is also charming with beautiful lake views. This has become a tradition for my son and I, hike Flat top or Sharp top and then relax and nap in the room, walk to the restaurant for dinner, and then sit on the balcony and watch the sun set. Perfect.

Room Tip: I prefer the upper of 2 levels.

We had a wonderful week in the Lodge and were delighted by the housekeeping staff s high standards; but unfortunately because the computer was not working at the time of our checking out, the front desk staff could not check us out or verify our charges!
A manager did happen by and estmated what our bill might be (approximately) for us to notate on a scrap of paper as we were told that they would "send us a Bill after the computers got fixed" We had a hard time accepting that without a computer, the business had no back-up plan to professionally say good-by to departing guests.
We were additionally some-what surprised that a very expensive yet very cold baked potato and prime rib meal we suffered through in the dining room was not responded to after we took the trouble to fill in your comment card and hand delivered it to the ECU student that was working at the front desk. We have already made plans to return for the lodge and the view; but intend to drive into Bedford for our evening meals! As we had depended on the web-sites self promotion of the restraunt, our experience did not reflect the hoped for culinary experience we had anticipated..

Fresh air and a good nights sleep were achieved; despite the dogs barking downstairs and then walking themselves in front of our picture window as their masters enjoyed a view of the lake without cleaning up after their pets. ( we learned not to walk in the grass after the dogs had done their business ) we checked out after four days when the smell became more noticeable.

Due to allergies, we had requested a non-smoking room and a no pet building. Why we were put in the pet building after specifically requesting to be as far away from pets and smokers as possible is a mystery I forgot to ask about at check-out The people in Utah that take reservations are reading out-dated literature about the facilities and local attractions.
( They had me planning to attend a dedication ceremony for the D-Day memorial on 4 July 2014 that had occured 13 years earlier on the anniversary of D-Day. We drove to the Memorial a day early as we were exploring Bedford Va and accidently discovered the error thanks to the excellent staff at the welcome center)

Our recomendations to the Peaks of Otter Lodge:
( The Menues in the rooms should match the ones in the dining room )
( Hire more wait staff for the restraunt )
( serve hot Baked potatoes while still hot! )
( serve warm bread with prime rib dinners, not stale, cold rolls )
( Warn people about the pet building before they unload a weeks worth of luggage in it)
provide controlls for the heater in the bathroom that do not require a lodge man to remove the cover to be man-handled off to turn off heat on a warm day)

Room Tip: Avoid the pet building
