We stayed at Senedo Springs at the condo buidings on Bryce Mountain. Here are the positives and negatives and other things to know.
I will say this first. It's very hard to find their office. Your GPS will take you to it, but it's meshed in with a diner/pancake place. Look for the car wash and turn in betwe the carwash and diner place. Go all the way to the end of the parking lot. There is an abandoned house there. The office is at the end of the building. Go up the steps.
*things to do on low/no budget
*Bryce Resort is down the mountain. You have access to their one pool and also Lake Laura. Lake Laura has a great hiking trail, Kayaking, paddle boating, and fishing. You can rent a canoe to fish out in the lake too. The trail is all terrain, but I was able to do it with my baby in her jogger stroller. Be aware of animals. I saw dear and a beaver, but there are bear in this area. There is a beach on the lake with no life guard. There is a public pool and playground near as well. There is a bridge that connects the lake area to it should you want to park and walk to either. WARNING- the walk up to the lake beach is a doozy!
The condo is only 1.5 baths which is kind of silly. The master BR has the half bath but there is room for them to install a shower. The mattresses were comfy, clean. Linens were clean. Kitchen had adequate space as well as the living rm/dining rm areas. There is a nice back deck/porch. They provide 2 chairs and a small table. Word to the wise, bring a hurricane lamp or similar. If you keep the porch light on, many crazy moths and large bees come to hang out. We heard a bear down the mountain one night. There is a picnic table area to the side of the condos with a beautiful view. The weather was warm during the day and lovely at night. We sat on the deck with a sweater or sweatshirt on. Dishwasher, stove are fine. The washer/dryer is a bit small. Bring your own detergents and stuff. They supply very little or none.
*SPIDERS! Ugh! we killed several. That may not bother many, but I'm an arachnophob! I bought bug spray and sprayed the perimeter of our room and under the bed where 3 bigger ones were hanging out! EWWW!
*SMMMMEEEELLLLY water. The water smells like eggs or a funky fart. It's the sulfur in the mountain water. If you think you can deal with it, bring a 3-5 gal of water for cooking and coffee since the water will alter the taste of everything. Bathing in it sucks too.
*There is nothing you can get to without driving.
*The carpets need a really good steaming! My daughters feet were black every night. She's only 1.5yrs old so slipper aren't possible for her to keep on
*Terrible cell coverage and no wireless.****THERE IS wireless at the airport/library. You can connect from the parking lot.
Things to do/need to know:
-The nearest Walmart in Woodstock (40mins or so away)
-Save-A-lot and Food Lion in Mt. Jackson as well as a Denny's.
-You can mini-gulf, dry tub, golf, ziplining.
-Shenandoah caverns has 3 attractions and it's about 30 mins away.
-Lurray Caverns/Skyline Drive is approx 1hr 20 mins away but worth the drive. Check for events at Skyland Resort in Shenandoah National Park (which skyline runs through). We found they had a Smores festival. Was nice for kids and wine for the adults :-)
-Massanutten is 1hr away and has an indoor water park.
-Bryce Resort has pamphlets and the lady is very informative.
-Bring board games and cards to keep ya busy for rainy days or etc.
Honestly, I'd say stay at Bryce mountain, but a lot of their condos/houses are driving distance too.
