Loved the setting! Felt nostalgic for past trips to Tuscany/Umbria- then found out the owner is Italian! Wide selection of wines. We were able to bring our 2 dogs inside! they enjoyed it as well. The ruins are so pretty- it is a shame they never rebuilt! Would return again if up that way again.

Absolute beautiful setting. Read the recent ny times article about Virginia wineries and decided to revisit the winery. The wines are good but a little cheaper at our local Wine shops than at the actual winery. The location is amazing and the ruins are beautiful. Must visit if doing a winery tour.

I loved that the tasting included sips of over 20 wines! The lady who helped us with our tasting was extremely knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. After our tasting, we went over to the ruins and took some great photos. The vineyard was a distance from where we came from (Orange, VA), but well worth the trip! I would go back and try the restaurant on site.

We sampled wine here and bought several bottles as gifts. All in all, a wonderful experience. Nice to see VA wines getting national recognition; we were happy to support this establishment.

My wife and I, along with our son and his wife and grandson visited Barboursville Vineyards for a tasting. My wife and I had been there several years before and enjoyed their whites and had recently had some of their wines at a friend's wedding in the Shenandoah N.P. We wanted to share the experience with our son and his wife. The tasting was $5 each, allowing tasting of 12-16 wines, and included a small souvenir glass. Their whites, especially their Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc were very nice. Most of the reds were certainly drinkable but not exceptional, excepting their flagship Octagon, a Bordeaux-style blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. It was very nice but ran about $50 per bottle. Our son, who lives in Virginia, commented that he "previously had a fairly low opinion of Virginia wines, but these changed his mind!". I purchased 3 selected bottles of whites for our son and 1 for us to take back home to Texas. Although we did not tour them this trip, there are some very interesting ruins of the old Barbour family mansion built during the War of 1812 and destroyed by fire in 1884. There is also an onsite inn.
