“Interesting wine tasting venue”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2013

The tasting is set up kind of buffet style. For five dollars, you can sample any and all of the wines that Barboursville offers - and they offer plenty! You also get to keep your tasting glass which makes for a nice souvenir. I really enjoyed their sauvignon blanc and their dessert wines. They offer Octagon (which has won lots of awards) as well. I wasn't a fan of the wine but I really don't like red wines all that much. We ended up bringing home a bottle of the sauvignon blanc and the rosato. I thought the Malvaxio was interesting but it didn't compare to ice wine. The grounds are very nice and there are plenty of tables where you can relax as you make your way through the tasting room. I highly recommend a visit to this winery.

“A stop on the way or a stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2013

Traveling throught the central Virginia countryside? Barboursville is a nice stop along the way, especially in the warmer weather. First, the wine tasting is one of the better ones, with a good number of wines to taste and knowledgable pourers. There is an excellet restaurant, but definitely requires advance planning and reservatoins. Ruins of the old plantation house on the grounds with plenty of places to sit with a bottle of wine and snack. And even an inn for overnight, so a destination as well for a quiet getaway.

“Great Wines, Beautiful Grounds”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2013

A great bang for your buck! The tasting includes 23 different kinds of wines and if you can't find a wine you like, it might just be that you don't like wine. They also offer a tour of the winery, the guide had a gregarious personality, which made the tour really enjoyable. We drove up to the ruins in the property and that was pretty cool, although you can't really go in. They also have an Inn and a restaurant in the property (Palladio) but the restaurant has some pretty limited hours and it was closed when we were there. We travel with two small kids and they made all of us feel welcomed.

“If you enjoy Virginia wine, Barboursville is as good as it gets”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2013

Beautiful grounds, close to Charlottesville, Montpelier and other historic attractions. The Barboursville wines are among the best you can buy in Virginia. Wine tastings are available pretty much anytime they're open. If you're in the area, stop by. You won't regret it, although your pocketbook may be a little lighter when you leave...since you WILL buy some of their wine.

“Good wine sampled in a beautiful setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

It was pouring rain the day I visited but they had a fire in the fireplace and warm and friendly employees on hand. I sampled 6 wines (could have had more) for $5 and got a great deal of information about the winery (Virginia's larges), the grounds and the area in general, and the wine making process. Very good tasting and a very pleasant pleasant afternoon. Highly recommend this winery.
