Review of Polka Dot Restaurant - CLOSED

Polka Dot Restaurant
Cuisines: Diner
Description: The Polka Dot Restaurant is a small diner located in the heart of White River Junction. We sit directly next to the railroad tracks and have a historical tie to the community. We are under new management and are bringing back the vintage diner feel. We provide free WIFI, daily lunch and dinner specials, and a huge selection of homemade desserts. We also make fresh homemade donuts every morning. If you are looking for a small hometown diner feel and great food, we are your place.

The people were incredibly friendly, but everything was soaked in butter, as one might expect in a diner. The restaurant has seen better days, but they keep it clean. The food was incredibly cheap so perfect for a quick bite on the way to skiing or hiking in the region.

It's touch to find coffee before dawn in White River Junction, VT. Even the Coolidge Hotel, where I was staying, did not have coffee service in the room or in the lobby, and seemed bothered when I asked where I could search some out. "Hospitality business" they call it...hoteling? Anyway, the coffee cup at the Polka danced with great coffee and everytime I looked away it was filled again...magic? No, just good hospitality.
Highly recommend.

We visited the Polka Dot restaurant after taking a ride on the White River Flyer. The menu is VERY limited and the staff was rather surly. It seemed like this was the only game in town - otherwise we would have had to go across the river into New Hampshire. The food (a grilled cheese and tomato for me, tuna for my wife and a split order of sweet potato fries), was $20 with the tip and tasted good, but I got a case of the runs several hours after eating there...on the way home. Not saying that my stomach problems were a direct result of the food, but it was somewhat coincidental.

This is not a nice restaurant by any measure, its a diner that makes you feel like its still the 50s. I had breakfast, it was what one would expect from what was ordered. By and large eggs, home fries and a bagel (grilled to cover that this is not bagel-land!) is what it is. An air conditioner was roaring in the background. Where I'm from there are many diners that go for the 50's feel, this one does not try - that's really what it is! Realistically its a bit of a dump, but IMO in a good, charming way. Don't bring a date here if you want a second one, but if you are looking to set back in time in a non-contrived way this place hits the spot.

Recently we stopped for breakfast at the Polka Dot Restaurant. The food was very tasty. Everything was prepared to order and the service was good. The interior needs some serious remodeling. The bathrooms are old and tired looking. The seats on the booths were very lumpy to say the least and not the most comfortable. If food is your only concern, this diner is worth a stop.
