Hotel Coolidge
Reviewed July 23, 2012

The hotel environment was as I expected, period decor with limited amenities, but it was clean and comfortable. The town was quaint with a few restaurants/bakeries within walking distance, although no coffee shops were open on Sunday morning. Parking was located behind the hotel, but the lot was full when we arrived. After going back into the hotel for options two times, we were directed to another lot nearby. My main complaint is that when we checked in, the hotel had no reservations for us from Expedia.com. Peggy, the manager, was called, and after much time spent waiting for her to locate a room for us, she booked us into a larger suite, for a much negotiated price that was still $20 more than our guaranteed rate with Expedia. She made it seem like she was doing us a huge favor, and that it was no fault of the hotel's that our reservation was lost. Peggy did make our dinner reservations (Elixir-excellent dining) for us after we checked in, but I still have a sour taste in my mouth from the check-in process. Peggy, "the customer is always right" is an important lesson to those who work in customer service and the hotel industry.

Room Tip: Door knobs jammed repeatedly. Thank goodness our room was a suite, with two exterior hall doors, or...

The common spaces are nice with period decorations and furniture, but the room left a bit to be desired. I guess I had a suite, though I suspect it was just the way the interior was set up. The air conditioner and tv were not in the actual bed space, but through a large archway in a sitting area. This made me chilly watching tv and hot at night. The bathroom was small and old with a shower stall that felt to me like it could use replacing-I didn't want to touch the walls. There is no hairdryer in the room, but I noticed as I checked out with wet hair that the woman in the elevator (also with wet hair) was going to the front desk to pick one up. Perhaps the most disappointing was the town itself. While this isn't the hotels fault, the description of the town sounded interesting and the hotel charming. The town was dirty and with very few shops. The only people I saw were people who had steped out of the two bars to smoke. I did. It feel comfortable walking further than a block to find dinner. Perhaps I should have stuck with a chain hotel or stayed in NH closer to Dartmouth, which was the reason for my visit. I will not return.

Yes the hotel is a little older and the rooms are a little dated, but this is such a nice change from the chains and the box motels available by the dozen.
Reasonably priced, DOG FRIENDLY and a short walk to all the downtown restaurants, bars and theater activity in this small town.
The service is very good - but like with many older hotels and motels a pair of earplugs is helpful for people who are sensitive to the noise of air conditioning or creaky floors.

This place is worth a visit if you are in the area. It's like stepping back in time, from the rooms to the train passing nearby. Great little restaurant down the street called Elixir. Very friendly staff and clean place. But, it is a little tired. Nevertheless, for the price, it's worth the visit.

Nice little place in white river junction . Place is historical but has an old feel to it and definitely isn't luxury . Place is in the heart of downtown , close to shops . However a car is still needed. Overall staff was friendly and value isn't to bad. Convenient for parents that don't want to pay the expensive price next to Dartmouth college or for students that want a long term stay off campus

This place maybe old but it was truly a great & nice place to stay. Our bed was so nice & it was so quite, which I am nt used to a hotel not being loud. The front desk was a real help & got us back on track wth our travel plans & events. I loved the old rustic feel this place gave & really happy we stayed there. Thank you .

Some people might consider this a funky old hotel. But there is nothing run down about it, it is a nostalgic railroad hotel with all and any amenities you might want. The staff are courteous, knowledgeable and attentive. The location couldn't be more delightful for anyone interested in historic meanerings to outdoor hiking, biking, rafting to golfing to shopping. And music in the area is also rich. The owners are also superb!
