“Lovely, serene place”
Reviewed February 19, 2014 via mobile

My husband and I just returned from a 2-night stay in the Meadowlook suite. What a completely lovely experience. Our suite in the barn was spacious but cozy with a fireplace and views of the mountains. The food was delicious. Katja, the innkeeper, is a consummate professional. Dan, the sommelier, made thoughtful and creative suggestions for superb food-wine pairings. We went snowshoeing on the property (snowshoes are available free for the borrowing), read in front of the fire, met other guests, and recharged our batteries. I have no complaints. This place hit the sweet spot. We cannot wait to go back.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Windham Hill Inn and it was a wonderful experience. The Inn is located in a remote secluded area providing the perfect setting for disconnecting from the hustle of our everyday life. The Inn is a wonderful facility with many common area's to sit and enjoy a warm fire and to chat with other guests. All the fireplaces were either lit or prepared to be lit with kindling and wood in place. There is the main Inn building but also a second building also with guest rooms called the White Barn. When entering the White Barn the foyer maintains the original rustic feel of an old barn but of course very clean and neat. Once beyond the foyer the White Barn has wonderful common area's and some very special guest rooms and suites. The entire facility is surrounded by many acres of rolling fields and mountains.

We stayed in the Marion Goodfellow loft suite which was so so nice. It is a large suite with a comfortable four post king bed, a lovely warming gas fireplace, sitting areas, private porch and it's own private Cupola atop the 3 story barn! The Cupola with 360 degree views of the fields and mountains has a sitting area which was a great place to relax and enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings. The bathroom was amazing with a funky wall paper, skylight and a nice assortment of shiny silver fixtures and decorations surrounding a large two person soaking tub and sitting area. It was a nice setting to have the bath butler prepare the perfect candle light bath after a full day trekking (8 miles) on the snowy trails around the Inn. Of course everything was extremely clean and well kept.

Likewise the hospitality of Katia the Inn keeper and per staff was equally wonderful. It seemed like Katia, Bruce and the rest of the staff were very observant and one step ahead to provide services that made our stay there a special experience. The restaurant and food were exceptional serving all kinds of freshly prepared specialties. Even breakfast exceeded expectations with fresh made muffins, strawberry Smoothies and choice of dishes all made with local produce. Dinner was amazing with so many special touches and the wine recommendations from Bruce were spot on. Service was perfect and matched the high quality experienced throughout the Inn.

The hiking trails around the Inn were really nice and certainly secluded. While you can take a leisurely walk through the easier trails and fields we greatly enjoy the more rugged remote snow covered terrain. The walk up the river to the waterfall was wonderful, totally secluded and the silence of the forest was deafening.

I think you can probably tell from the above review that we really enjoyed our time at this special Inn.

Room Tip: The loft suites in the White Barn are wonderful!

I stayed at this amazing inn 1 night and vowed after leaving the next morning that I'd be back with my wife, she'll love it. The food was amazing! The staff are incredibly friendly. I must say, whoever is managing this Inn is doing a fantastic job, the little touches like fresh fruit in the room, hand-written welcome note and attention-to-detail with decor and ambiance sets this place apart. I had an option between staying at the Windham Hill Inn or a stinky, noisy, ski lodge...I made the right choice!

Our stay was the perfect snowy retreat, beautiful rooms with log fires, wonderful food and service. Lots of thoughtful touches which made us feel like we were guests in a lovely country home. We enjoyed snow shoeing- all the equipment was provided, the staff made all the transport arrangements for us including taking us to a fantastic sleigh ride. The food was a fantastic standard including creative breakfasts, delicious baked cakes and biscuits with hot apple cider and gourmet dinners. The team looking after us were excellent - always helpful, thoughtful with every request met with kindness and efficiency. The grounds are lovely and we can't wait to return in another season.

After a beautiful scenic drive to the Inn, we were welcomed by a warm and inviting staff, lead by Katia, the Inn keeper. The inn is located in an isolated spot where all you can hear is the sound of the wind blowing through the trees. Our hostess Katja was extremely personable and friendly. She made our experience special and extremely comfortable. We were immediately given a tour of the grounds ending with the keys to our cozy suite atop an old barn. The room was as cozy as if it were my own house. There was no TV (perfect) however there is an average signal for internet. We ate both nights at the 5 star dining hall, where we were personally welcomed at the front door. The food was exceptional and wine paring was top-notch (Thanks Dan). Upon returning to our room after dinner we were pleasantly surprised to see that it had been cleaned!! WOW. A personal hand-written note laid on the bed from Katia, welcoming us to the Inn. Breakfast the next morning was also exceptional (great views for first thing in the morning!), and when we returned....room was cleaned again. We did not get to hike along the trails, however the little shops in the neighboring towns were well worth the drive.
Would absolutely stay here again.

Your stay is guaranteed to be relaxing and peaceful. 1st stay was over a decade ago this stay was celebrating 26th anniversary. Small professional staff works aggressively and passionately to ensure everything is perfect. Food is 5 Star, tasty and a bit pricey but worth every cent. When you want to get lost in a remote area that is truly "away from it all" look no further than the Windham Hill Inn.

Another stay at the Windham Hill Inn, into the very bosom of serenity and relaxation. I know of no new way to say it. Sure, there was more: The exhilaration of the birch forest lighting up like jackpot alert after we hiked from Inn, to meadow and then into the woods to the falls. The magnificence of beauty in this quintessential Vermont setting. But, in the end, I come back to the sheer quiet outside among the mountains guarding our safe haven. The warmth of the fire while sipping glasses of wine selected for us by Dan. The enveloping comfort of our big bed. The sumptuous breakfast and dinner. The attention to detail and special requests by Katja, our favorite innkeeper. All of these settle me down as few other places have ever done, and certainly none within such easy reach.
