“This place sucks!!!!!”

I was a guest at a wedding on Aug. 15, 2009 and the couple getting married had reserved this place for Friday night and Saturday night- the owner was extremely rude and uninviting after he had been paid the $3000 fee for those days! Friday night during rehearsal dinner he decided it would be a great time to mow the lawn- we were shouting over the sound of the mower and practicallt getting spit on by the grass before we finally asked him to stop. He also charged an extra $200 to use this dinky little kitchen and wouldn't let us use the electricity so we had to run everything off a generator! As the wedding began, he was scowling at all the guests before allowing us any privacy. Then to top the night off he double booked the place so there were other campers besides the invited guests that were there. What a mistake this place was- I would never ever recommend this place to anyone!!!!

I can't believe Millstone Hill hasn't been reviewed yet. When searching for a place to go on my honeymoon after my fall wedding, I happened upon Millstone Hill which is also a mountain biking center. We stayed in the lovely converted Barn which has a private "loft" apartment that is cozy, comfortable, and romantic. The entrance is private off the back of the barn (the touring center is on the first floor at the front) and there are lots of great couches and nook areas to read and a private deck that would have been lovely in the summer. There's also a wood stove, a really cool tin tub (as well as a shower) and antiques galore (but the interesting kind--like an antique phonograph, and old books--not the B&B doily kind). The TV is strategically placed in an out of the way area which was so great--we didn't watch it at all during our 3-night stay. An unexpected pleasure was the view out of the front windows onto a hill aflame with color and the fun CD collection. It was blissful to feel we could go for a bike ride (which we didn't end up doing because it rained), go on a hike (which we did do and the old quarries are really cool), or just do nothing. Although Barre is not the cutest VT town, it's very close to Montpelier, Warren, and Waitsfield and we went to these places for dinner.
The owner is super friendly and very knowledgeable. The only downside is that he lives on the second floor of the Barn, which means he shares an entrance. We didn't think this was a problem though and he was very respectful of our privacy. We're thinking about going back and renting out the Lodge with friends (it has 5 bedrooms). A note about the two properties--they're not right next to each other, but about a 15 minute walk or 5 minute drive away.
