We went in for a drink while we waited for our cab to arrive. The customers & wait staff seemed to be annoyed because we were not locals who knew what beers we wanted as soon as we walked in the door. Also, extremely small with limited bar stools.

We stopped in Sunday after finding out that Hill Farmstead was canceling their bottle release. I was bummed. On the bright side, the Blackback Pub had some Hill Farmstead on tap. They had a decent selection of good VT brews [Hill Farmstead and Lawsons Finest stand out]. The beer lines seemed to be clean even though the beer was served a little too cold and they were already out or quickly running out of the beers I most wanted to try. We did order a quesadilla, though, that was out of this world! Perfect balance of salsa, cheese, cilantro, scallions, and crispy tortilla. I'd go back for the quesadilla alone.

Pricey beverages, little atmosphere - not sure we'd return just because there are other choices close by.

We only stopped her for the bar, we didn’t sample the food , although what came from the kitchen looked very tempting. We had heard that beer variety on tap was astounding, and it indeed it was! Great local beers offered, as well as other interesting hard to find craft brews on tap. You will find quality over quantity here, but definitely worth the trip. It is a friendly little pub that gets quite busy.

On the way to Stowe, we needed lunch. And, of course, wanted to sample some of the brews on tap that Waterbury is famous for. The Blackback Pub was the perfect spot. Small but cozy, friendly barkeep. We ordered Hill Farmstead, a very pretty beer, ordered some tacos from Mad Tacos (now located and serving inside the pub) and enjoyed a tremendous meal. The tacos were spectacular--almost like you were in L.A. (a very rare moment for New England). It was around noon on a Saturday in late February, and we had the whole bar to ourselves--a rare quiet moment, no doubt, for the pub. Soon other patrons arrived, we just might have been early for lunch. Also, you cannot pass up tasting and indulging in the many "home made" salsas they've mixed up, rated by heat and each given their own special names, to pour onto your tacos. Delicious beer! Superb tacos! Great place! What a surprise find in the middle of Vermont.
