Owner description: For all the euphoric flavors you can't get enough of – especially the ones you can't get in ordinary stores – nobody scoops Ben & Jerry's better than we do at our scoop shops.

"I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!" has never rung truer than at Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory in Waterbury, Vermont. We have loved Ben and Jerry's for years and made a special side trip through the top of Vermont just to visit.
Be aware that you really need a GPS or extremely accurate directions to find Ben and Jerry's. The state of Vermont does not allow road signs for businesses and therefore you have no help in when to exit and where to turn. The adventure of finding the factory in the first place is worth the effort..and wrong turns...we made.
The employees were just what you would expect from two old hippies with an idea for ice cream all those years ago. They were funny and helpful and seemed so happy to see each visitor. There is a small charge for the factory tour but it does include a tee shirt, samples of ice cream, certificates for pints of Ben and Jerry's at a later date.
Don't miss the walk up the hill to the cemetery that houses flavors that have now passed away for one reason or another. Each tombstone has the name of the flavor and a truly funny poem as to the demise of said flavor. While this hill is a bit of a climb it was handicap friendly for my walker as was the entire complex.
Take a break from driving and treat yourself to the history and flavors of Ben and Jerry's. It's RV friendly, too.

We were staying in Stowe and decided to take a day off from skiing and do some shopping and sightseeing. Ben & Jerry's factory was about 30 mins away and is famous, so we decided it was a must do. We got there just in time for the next tour (every 30 mins). They take you up to a small theater room and show you a 5-10 min video about the history of Ben and Jerry's which is somewhat interesting but nothing you can find on the Internet. Then they walk you down the hall to a viewing area where you can see from up above the workers and equipment making ice cream. There was a lot of tubes and big holding tanks and several workers on the floor but you really couldn't tell or see what was happening. The guide took about 5 minutes explain the various steps in the process and asked for questions. He tried to be excited and interesting but you could tell that he does this tour about 100 times a week and was as bored as we were.
Finally we were taken to the tasting room where we got a small scoop sample of the current flavor they were testing. No body in our group seem to think the flavor our group was given was all that good. When we finished our small sample you exit through the gift shop where you can buy souvenirs. All-in-all the tour lasted about 25 minutes.

It's nice to see this but a 30 minute tour to literally two rooms doesn't really seem worth $4?
We spent more time playing in the snow in the grounds

If you haven't visited or heard the story this is a must especially if you have kids. Quick diversion during the day.

This is a fun, short tour of one of their factories. The guide we had was energetic and goofy. They show you a movie, take you to a viewing room over the factory and end with some samples. We were lucky to try a special flavor that was only available at the factory (hot chocolate!). For $4, this tour is worth it. I have only been in the winter, but would love to come back in the summer. Also, the factory is only running Mon - Fri, so if you visit on the weekends you don't actually see them making ice cream.
