1824 House Inn
Ranked #12 of 15 Waitsfield B&B and Inns
Reviewed March 11, 2013 via mobile

We weren't here long and left so early we missed out on breakfast, but we did enjoy ourselves for the brief time we spent here. The owners were friendly and helpful and suggested places to eat for dinner. Our room was small, but the bed was huge and comfortable. We are both really tall so bathroom was a little tight for us, especially the shower, but in older homes you have to use the space that you have and be creative. We were really weary about staying at a B&B ever again after a horrible experience in NH a few years back, but we would stay at the 1824 house again if we have the chance. It was comfortable, felt like home and the cookies were great!

My wife and I stayed at the 1824 House last week for a short ski trip. Sarah and Greg, the innkeepers, could not have been more hospitable, welcoming, kind, and generous. They've clearly visited enough B&Bs themselves to know exactly the right way to treat guests and how to make them feel at home. The breakfasts were delicious (especially the stuffed french toast), made to order, and served in a beautiful dining room - complete with tablecloths. We stayed in the Franklin Room. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom included several toiletries (a nice touch, and very thoughtful). The bedroom is on the small side, but that didn't bother us at all, as there's a mud room for coats and boots, a TV room, and a sitting room with a fireplace, books, and games. As another reviewer wrote, Sarah and Greg have set the standard for Bed and Breakfasts. We would absolutely stay at the 1824 House again.

We spent 3 nights with friends at the 1824 House Inn over President's Weekend and the experience was truly memorable. The highlight was moonlight snowshoeing through the fields and woods with the innkeeper, Greg, followed by a delicious sit-down dinner in the beautiful barn where both innkeepers ---Greg & Sarah--- joined us. What a feast Sara prepared for us...oven roasted pork, root vegetables, delicious salad, vermont cheeses....!

The inn itself is extremely comfortable and homey --- the fire in the living room is a welcome place to warm up with guests after a day of skiing at Sugarloaf. Our bedroom was well-decorated (with antique door headboard) and heated (with radiant heat through the floors).

Sarah and Greg treated us more like beloved friends than guests...providing help and advice at every turn. The homemade chocolate, salted caramel cookies were irresistible as were the fluffy lemon yogurt pancakes and local farm fresh eggs for breakfast.

Sarah and Greg's love for the Inn, the area, and their guests made for a very special time. We look forward to coming back.

My wife and I had the pleasure of being one of the first guests of Greg and Sarah, the new innkeepers. They were such good people and we really enjoyed our time at the inn. They made amazing breakfasts for us (gluten-free, in fact) and made us feel very comfortable. We will definitely come back!

If you like relaxed authenticity—no kitch, no pretend anything—and a truly "make yourself at home" attitude, 1824 House will please you. The farmhouse is comfortable and rambling, with two common areas (one a living room with fireplace/stove comfortably yet still elegantly appointed, the other a smaller room with a television and comfortable seats), a welcoming dining area for inCREDible breakfasts, a mudroom to leave your boots and outdoor shoes. The hardwood floors are subsequently in beautiful condition. The property is surrounded on 3 sides by working farms (ok, at least 2—I'm not sure), that provide eggs and meat and syrup (VT maple!), and vegetables in summer. We spent 3 nights for skiing, and also took up their snowshoeing-under-moonlight option one night that ended with a "Vermont" dinner in the barn. Topping the experience were the innkeepers themselves, Greg and Sarah, who despite their but 5 months experience at 1824 House beat out anyone with 20 yrs experience in warmth, skill, and thoughtfulness. I got the feeling they could not think of a better way to spend their time (whether true or not!). On our next trip to Waitsfield, we hope they will have a vacancy.

Room Tip: Our room was in front and thereby closer to the main road, so we heard cars. No big deal (we're...

My fiancé and I just stayed at the Inn as we were skiing at Sugarbush over Presidents Day 2013. This place is fantastic!! Upon arriving we were upgraded for free to a nicer room as the guests in our booked room decided on an extra night. The Innkeepers are so warm and friendly, they greet you by name and make you feel welcomed. The rooms are all extremely clean and very well maintained. There is a ton of New England charm here. The food the food the food was absolutely fantastic (I said it three times for emphasis). The innkeepers got up early and moved breakfast to 7:30 AM so all the skiers could get to the mountain early. We were treated to wonderful almond cinnamon bread, fresh squeezed orange juice, and incredibly light and fluffy lemon ricotta pancakes. After a great stay and breakfast we were ready for skiing (Sugarbush is only 10 mins away). There's a good selection of restaurants around too. This place is an incredible location and value, the innkeepers are fantastic!!...we will be returning

We had a great stay at 1824. The rooms were clean, well decorated and large. The food was fantastic and the in keepers were extremely friendly, which created a great environment for the guests. I highly recommend 1824 for a cozy stay during a trip to Vermont.
