“A Beautiful and Romantic Stay in a Gorgeous Area”
Reviewed October 15, 2009

The Yellow Farmhouse Inn is one my favorite B&B's I have ever stayed at. The 1800's era farmhouse in well restored with beautiful bedrooms and country era, upscale antiques. Mike and Sandi are great hosts, who also offer sound advise on restaurants and other areas to visit while there. Highly recommended and will stay there again!

Since moving to Massachusetts in 2005, we visit Vermont more than once each year--our favorite New England state. The town of Waitsfield is among its charms, and where we found also The Yellow Farm House, the place we never fail to stay on each trip. Hosts Sandy and Mike have the kinds of rooms we prefer, with touches of rusticity yet with every convenience and top-notch cleanliness. Their breakfasts are to die for--varied and sumptuous home-cooked offerings and service by the hosts themselves. We love the natural setting, porches and swings for sitting, and on our latest visit we introduced ourselves to the yaks in the adjoining field! The Yellow Farm House is minutes away from all attractions in the area, from charming downtown and nearby boutiques and excellent dining to the Sugar Bush ski resort and golfing attractions. We take easy driving excursions to Stowe and even into the "northeast kingdom" and still are back for restful nights at Yellow Farm House.

Unlike some Vermont inns, which can be “rustic”, “quaint” or “quirky” to the point of inconveniencing visitors, The Yellow Farmhouse Inn strikes a perfect balance between maintaining the charm of a Vermont farm and providing the amenities that a traveler needs. It’s classic where you like it to be and modern where want it to be. If you’re looking for “quilts and frills” or an inn that’s still equipped as it was when “George Washington slept here”, it’s probably not your kind of place, but we found it to be ideal for spreading out and relaxing. We really liked the concept of having full access to the facility, including the large kitchen, as it makes one feel more at home. Although we didn’t stay in the downstairs suite (where the former owners actually lived), it seems like an ideal choice for an extended stay, with a move-in-and-make-it-your-own feel. And never fear, the resident yak population in the adjacent field (yes yaks, not llamas), adds the touch of intriguing oddity that’s “de rigueur” for Vermont inns.

If your plans for your visit include two-wheeled recreation, this is a bike-friendly facility, with plenty of indoor storage for your steed and accessories. Just make sure you have lots of little gears, as flat roads are a rare commodity in Vermont. The gorgeous scenery makes the climbing worthwhile, constantly encouraging you to discover what’s over the next hill. Spa tubs in the bathrooms will relieve your tired muscles and leave you fresh for the next day’s adventure.

Host Mike’s description of the inn as “a warm, comfortable place to stay” is far too pedestrian. The Yellow Farmhouse is charming and inviting, with spacious rooms, beautiful views, expansive grounds, top-notch food and wonderful hosts. A traveler can feel very much at home here. We highly recommend it.

This was one of the nicest B&B experiences I have ever had. You can't beat the location: quiet hillside view of Vermont hills and pastures, away from traffic, but a short walk into the quaint village of Waitsfield. Mike and Sanrda were outstanding hosts and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and special for our brief weekend in Vermont.

The rooms were each impeccably decorated (I got to peek into most of them) with king beds and jacuzzis and gas fireplaces in many of them. The style of the rooms and the entire inn was perfect for our tastes: Vermont country without a lot of ruffles and lace.

Mike was very helpful and accommodating, allowing us to check out late and take showers after our late morning bike ride. Our only regret is that we could only stay one night (for which they were also kindly accommodating). We will surely be back again!

As reccomended by a fellow business acquaintance, I booked a room at the Yellow Farm House Inn for a recent business trip. Upon arrival I was greeted by the very friendly Inn keepers, Michael and Sandra. Coffee and homemade cookies were a nice treat after my flight. They were very helpful reccomending several places to dine in the area. The room was very clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated . The jacuzzi was so relaxing after a long day of traveling. Breakfast was delicious both days of my stay, served early, allowing me to meet my tight schedule. I would absolutely reccomend this Inn and look forward to returning on my next business trip to VT.

I can't say enough good things about YFI. The owners Mike and Sandra have years of experience in the hospitality business, and it shows. They strike the perfect balance between attentive service and respecting the privacy of their guests. They anticipated our every need and could not have been more helpful. The house is beautiful...old fashioned in style but with 21st century amenities like high speed internet and jacuzzis. Everything looks brand new, and it's clear that a lot of thought went in to setting up the house for guests. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and you could eat off the floors. Breakfast is included, and every day Sandra whipped up something different that was just out of this world. There's plenty of parking, and the location is the perfect distance away from the main road, and it's equidistant between Mad River Glen and Sugarbush.

The only things keeping it from utter perfection is that the TVs are small, and the bathrooms need more shelf space for your toiletries and such.

I can't say enough good things about the Yellow Farmhouse. My fiance and I stayed there over the Valentine's Day weekend, and it was really wonderful. First and foremost, Mike and Sandra are truly lovely people who genuinely care about their guests- they made our stay feel more like a visit to a dear relative's house than to a place we'd never set foot in before! The house is very clean and nicely decorated overall, and has a very 'warm' feel to it. Our room was beautiful- we booked late and got a smaller room, but we didn't feel like we missed out at all! It was very nicely decorated, and the bed was very comfortable. Our windows looked out to a horse farm across the road, and a very picturesque view of the surrounding mountain areas.

The breakfasts were delicious, and unlike other places we've stayed, Mike and Sandra provide their guests with afternoon snacks like home-made cookies and soup- a really nice touch when you return from a day of skiing!

My fiance and I made our engagement at the Yellow Farmhouse, and Mike and Sandra were really INCREDIBLY helpful in making sure everything was perfect for that once-in-a-lifetime moment! They arranged the flowers I had delivered, chilled the champagne, and even kept the ring for safe keeping for me :) They were even able to get us last-minute Valentine's Day dinner reservations at an amazing local restaurant called The 1824 House (which I also recommend highly!).

If I could give the Yellow Farmhouse more than 5 stars, I would. We will definitely be returning as soon as possible!
