Stayed last week at the Black Bear Lodge and was very pleased with the hotel. The staff was very pleasant, my room was clean and updated. Only drawback, the heater was noisy. We turned off the unit at night and the fan would still continue to go on. We ate dinner twice at the hotel. Both times, the food was delicious. Cannot go wrong staying at the Black Bear Lodge.

My husband and I stayed at Black Bear Lodge on Stratton Mtn. for their ski and stay package. First of all it's a great deal and skiing on Stratton Mountain is great. But the best part was the lodge. The receptionists are super friendly. We skiied Sunday stayed Monday night and skiied Monday. The rooms are very nice and very clean. Beds are super comfortable and the staff is very helpful. You can leave your car in the parking lot and take a handy shuttle to the mountain that runs all the time. We went to stay at another place to ski Okemo Mountain on tuesday night and before we left Stratton we heard there would be a big snowstorm wed. We were suppose to return home on Wed. night. I stopped at the front desk and explained my dilemma and asked if I could reserve for Wed. and Thurs. skiing and staying Wed. night although I wasn't sure if we could make it back in the snow. Mary at the front desk was very helpful and took the reservation and said if I couldn't make it to call Wed. morning. We did make it and the snow was just too much to ski in and Courtney at the front desk nicely gave us $70 in vouchers to spend on the mountain and got us into our room early. We had a lovely lunch at Grizzly's and will eat dinner in the restaurant tonight. We will definitely come back!

Black Bear Lodge is the former Stratton Mountain Inn. We have stayed there for an annual trip for the past 5 years. The front desk staff and the cleaning staff is excellent and try very hard to accommodate the guest. The breakfast staff, while OK, is not as good as last year. The breakfast itself is better than average, but not as great as before. You still get a hot breakfast, but gone are the muffins and pastries and variety of pancakes and waffles. It is scrambled eggs every day with sausage, bagels, cereal, yogurt & fruit. I asked about the change, thinking it was a budget problem, but it is more due to the person that managed it last year moved to another area in Stratton. Wish they would bring her back!

We had an issue with our reservation on the night we arrived and had to be put in the "emergency room" off the main lobby for 1 night. It was a comfortable room but pretty noisy. We were not charged for that night and the second day were able to move into a room on the top floor.

All of the rooms are renovated, new carpet in rooms and hallway. Shame they don't have slow closing doors in the hallways between sections because they bang and wake you up at night.

The bed and furniture looked new and there is a small table and 2 chairs. There is a nice armoire for your clothes. There are no more sofas in the room (they were old anyway) but a comfy chair would have been nice, not sure why they don't have one - maybe that is planned. A towel rack and a retractable drying line in the bathroom would have been nice since there is no place to hang anything wet (if you go to the hot tub, for example). The in room safe is gone as well. While we were there, all the phones on the top floor got installed. The fan in the bathroom sounded like a freight train and the toilet made noise all night but when I mentioned this at checkout, they noted it for repair and compensated us for a night which was very appreciated.

So overall a good place to stay, very convenient to the slopes and the staff is excellent. We never had to wait for the shuttle and it runs until 10 pm. But hopefully they are working on some more refinements to make it run a bit more smoothly.

Room Tip: Ask for highest floor - valley view away from the stairs to the lobby. Book before Oct 31st for dis...

We have just finished our stay at the newly renovated Black Bear Lodge. It was absolutely fantastic! I was slightly worried because we reserved our room before reading the reviews, reading the recent reviews I was a little apprehensive until our arrival, everything was perfect! Upon arrival I was welcomed into a beautiful lobby, complete with a bar and lounge area. I got a great feeling coming inside, the place felt comfortable and welcoming. Our room was beautiful, the rooms were completely renovated and had great decorations and accommodations, I couldn't think of anything that I would have had in the room that wasn't there. The bathrooms were beautiful, and the beds were super comfy. The breakfast was great, I could not have asked for anything more for a complimentary breakfast. The staff was extremely accommodating, and anything we requested was delivered to the room promptly.

I am so glad that we went with the Black Bear Lodge, it was affordable and everything I was looking for in our southern Vermont getaway!

i've been coming here for years..when it was The Inn... and i'm glad to see the renovations they did. My room had been renovated and the mattress was new. Cheesy little table for two with hard bentwood chairs. No comfy chair in the room. The HVAC unit is LOUD and runs occasionally even when OFF. Walls are very thin and everyone's bathroom vent fan is loud too.

Skiers are hard on a hotel and the public areas are a little shabby. The free breakfast is ok, about what you'd expect.

I always come midweek and I think its a good value. A nice hotel with this location would be very expensive. You can actually take a break from skiing and come back to the hotel during a snow squall like i did yesterday.

But they may have lost me this time. Last night they had a band set up in the function room above the lobby...literally a few feet from guest rooms. The building shook like a boombox jeep till after ten pm. Its not like skiers are tired and want to go to sleep, right? Guy at the desk said they were shooting a video and had "prior permission". Well ok then.

So if you want to come, dont book on the website. Call them live and ask if they have any bands booked. And ask for a room at the far end of the guest wings, away from the lobby.

Room Tip: far from the lobby. upper floot

I love skiing at Stratton Mountain! Great trails, good school for kids, nice shops, restaurants, everything within a walking distance. I highly recommend this place for families, just don't stay in Black Bear Lodge, choose The Landmark or other condo resort instead.

Black Bear Lodge states that the hotel is after renovations but I didn't see anything new in there. Maybe the countertops in the bathrooms (?)... Our rooms window was leaking so bad, that half of the carpet was soaking wet and smelled bad. The lobby and breakfast area appears to be 100 years old and its really dirty, and on the outside the roof and siding is falling apart. The continental breakfast...- just disgusting...

They do have a shuttle to the lifts; runs every 7 min until 10pm, takes 3 min to get there, very convenient, but that's the only positive thing I can tell about the hotel.

Literally the only reason you should consider this hotel is for its location. The "renovation" is fraudulent advertising at best. Stratton bought this hotel over the summer and claims they completed a multi-million dollar renovation...this couldn't be further from the truth. They painted the walls in the rooms, put in new cheap carpet and tile in bathrooms and their "queen beds" are actually doubles. For all of that you get to enjoy inflated room rates, no phones in the rooms, screaming kids running up and down the hallways and a breakfast buffet not worthy of a gas station. Think overpriced dormitory. Untrained staff and terrible service is embarrassing. If you are age 18-24 and looking for a cheap place to share a room with 4 friends then this is the spot for you but if you plan a ski weekend getaway at a resort on the mountain don't be fooled here. If you find a deal this option works becasue of the proximity to the village but not worth more than 100 a night. For half the price stay next door at Liftline lodge...at least Stratton doesn't pretend that property is a real hotel.
