“Anniversary Weekend”
Reviewed October 30, 2006

My husband and I celebrated our first year anniversary at the Green Mountain Inn for a long weekend. We got a standard room which turned out to be a super tiny room (301) next to the pool closet that held the pool vaccum. There was a constant loud humming sound which was bearable but not really what we were expecting. The bed was suppose to be a queen but turned out to be a full instead. The room was "dark" even with the two light sources turned on. Overall, the room served its purpose but I wouldn't recommend staying in this room if you are looking for more high end and "comfort". Tea time at 4:00 is worth planning for at the end of your day. The cookies were delicous and the hot cider was so tasty. We sat next to the roaring fireplace one evening which was a nice touch at the end of the rainy day.

The inn has a SUPER pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and gym. I used all of them every day that we were there. The weather was rainy and cold so the heat was just the right touch each morning. I truly enjoyed the outdoor pool and swimming while the steam was rolling off the top at night. The location of the inn is great for both walking and driving in Stowe. We at lunch at Harrison's (worth going) and Rusty Nail (nasty!) and dinner at Whip (decent) and Pie-casso (strongly recommend). For breakfast we picked up the food at the market shop next door. Their coffee is wonderful!

The shopping variety in Stowe isn't something to look forward to unless you are strictly looking for pots, pans, food, seasoning, and usual tourist stuff. We did end up buying some regional wine and of course, Cabot cheese. I was disappointed with their clothing and small speciality stores.

We drove to Burlington one day but that was also the day the rain was blowing sideways. We stayed as long as we could at Church Street which was great but really couldn't enjoy because we were soaked within 1 hour. The shopping there is much better.

We enjoyed our weekend and if we weren't such hard core beach people we would plan to stay here again but realize that we can't be away from the ocean for a long period of time.

This was our fifth visit to The Green Mountain Inn. We go for the hiking, skiing and food. This time we went with our very good friends for the hiking, swimming and wonderful food. The inn is very cozy and typifies the Vermont style. There are many comfortable common areas to read, enjoy a glass of wine and chat. The food at The Whip is flavourful and plentiful. The complimentary tea and freshly-baked cookies at 2 each day is not to be missed. The rooms are, like the rest of the inn, very restful, clean and reflect the Vermont style. The service is attentive and courteous. However, we did not find the front desk very helpful in telling us about the local hiking trails. The inn is within walking distance to many good restaurants and the recreational path. I would highly recommend staying at The Green Mountain Inn for those seeking a romantic getaway, a family reunion or a ski/hiking holiday.

We just returned from a week at the Green Mountain Inn and it was wonderful. We stayed in the Starr Suite at the Mansfield House and what a treat it was. Full size apartment with full kitchen - being able to bring food in for some meals was a real cost saver. The location of the inn could not be beat - within walking distance of shops and restaurants. The inn has such charm and history and there was so much to do in Stowe. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone. My husband's comment was "you outdid yourself on this one!" He loved it also. We will be back!!

Really liked the feel and the location of this Inn. We had some problems with our room - they gave us a room with one bed, when we needed 2. We were moved around a few times - which was a pain - but the staff was very courteous and in the end they made it all work out very nicely for us. Breakfast was very good, pool area was really nice for our kids, and the location in town was excellent.

A good distance from the mountain, but a nice drive.

There is a broad range of room options, from very simple to very deluxe.

We too, received a musty bedroom. However, when we asked to be changed, it was done immediately and w/o fuss. The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly.

Bedrooms are small in the main hotel area. Our room was cleaned everyday . This is an old hotel and could use some room remodeling. Our bed was comfortable....our room faced the street, but the traffic died down early in the evening and the noise from outside was not a problem.

Thank you, staff, at Green Mountain Inn for a nice 3 day getaway vacation.

Our first stay, and we were pleasantly suprised. We stayed in a luxury room at the MIll House, which was well worth the extra money to upgrade. Parking was at the door, and the room was very large, clean, and modern. Also had a refrig (which we discovered as we were getting packed to leave). A computer was available for free internet access almost right outside our door. Convenient walking to shops and restaurants nearby. Can't speak for the other rooms, but the luxury room is great. We will stay here again if we travel this way.

  • Liked — Large, modern, rooms.
  • Disliked — Almost too quiet
  • Tips/Secrets — Book the luxury room

I have stayed at the GMI twice in the past 3 months. Once for skiing and once for work. I normally trust TripAdvisor ratings very strongly but I think that the Green Mountain Inn is HIGHLY over-rated.

I think the key is being very careful which room category you're going to fall in. Both times I have obviously fallen in the lowest category. And it is very low indeed. TINY breadbox rooms that smelled very musty. Bathroom was renovated and was nice and clean with the exception of the toilet which had been victimized by a prior guest and unfortunately remained uncleaned.

Location of the hotel is great. Main lobby is nice. Whip restaurant is nice. Pool is pretty nice. But the 2 rooms I've seen would be hard pressed to qualify for even 2 stars.

One more thing - while in Stowe try going to Piecasso. Nice place and the best pizza I've tried in some time.

  • Liked — Great location in a great vacation area
  • Disliked — Tiny, musty rooms Nasty toilet.
  • Tips/Secrets — Ask ahead what type of room you are getting
