“We just love it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2013

This is my first review, but not our first stay. We usually make the 3 hour drive 1 or 2 times a year just to get away. The feel of the hotel is like it was almost 100 years ago, with all the modern amenities. The best thing we have found it the staff. They are all so friendly, from the front desk to the morning breakfast waitresses. They make you feel welcome and their fresh made bread is AMAZING. You can even buy it to take home.

We have tried different types of rooms in the hotel, and though the suites with hot tubs are nice, the classic rooms are our favorite. They have everything you need.

The only thing I have not been impressed with is the restaurant and bar. Though the atmosphere is very quaint, almost a secret feeling, and the food is good, the service could be better. Service staff could be better trained and more attentive to patrons. The bar has been hit or miss depending on who is working. My wife ordered a drink once and it was just great. The next time we came back (different bartender) it was horrible.

Overall, this hotel definitely deserves #1 in Stowe, even though it could improve in some areas. We will be taking the trip back soon. As an added bonus, the annual car show parade in August goes right by the hotel. I have to admit is really fun watching all the cool classic cars go by from their front deck, while drinking tea and fresh cookies.

Room Tip: Bottom floor, in front of pool, or 2nd floor facing front of hotel.

I’m so glad you had the opportunity to enjoy relaxing on the front porch of the Green Mountain Inn during the Stowe Antique Car Show! What could be better than watching history go by from one of the most historic buildings in town! I am truly disappointed however, to hear that the service you received in our restaurant was not up to par and am very thankful that it has not deterred you from returning in the future. I will share your concerns with our staff in the hopes of improving the experience for all of our guests. Thank you for sharing your experience and I look forward to greeting you again soon.

We spent three nights at the Inn (November 1-3) with two of our teenage kids and had a great time. We had a luxury family suite in the Mansfield House and it was beautiful. The room was spacious, very clean and the separate room for the kids was great. Fireplace, Jacuzzi tub, huge flat-screen, big bathroom - and with the two kids, we made use of the extra bathroom in the building that was not part of the room. The building is beautiful. Breakfast was great - the selection is not huge, but very good. My wife and I stayed in the Mansfield House a few years ago when it was new, and it has aged very well -- still looks, feels and smells new! We will definitely come back again. Not the cheapest place to stay, but we left feeling we had good value for our money.

Beautiful, historic hotel with friendly staff & great location. Rooms are well maintained and the staff is friendly & helpful. Particularly enjoyed dinner in the dining room with a great server who was very knowledgeable about the beer selection.

Enjoyed the town and the 3 mile hike we took outside of town.

We landed at the hotel on Halloween and was warmly greeted by tonto, namely Paul, who made us feel like long lost friends; truly wonderful. The facilities were fantastic, room very comfortable and impeccable. We ate at the restaurant and found the food to be really good, particularly the steak. I will definitely return to stay here one day and would highly recommend more than one night . Breakfast was not included in the price but well worth the $12.99 for the full compliment, again freshly baked cakes, breads and all the encouragement from the waitresses to sample the lot. We travelled from Boston to Vermont and stayed in some truly lovely hotels, this little gem topped them all. Thank you to all at the Green mountain Inn for making our last night in the USA truly unforgetable.

Room Tip: They're all good, just go for it

Originally planned to stay at the Stowe Mountain Lodge, but then realized it was quite a drive from the wonderful historic village of Stowe and so picked the beautiful GMI.
Enthusiastically welcomed by front desk clerk Kirkland, and checked into a quaint room with a gas fireplace in the original old Inn building. This hotel has been added to several times over the years,so the variety of rooms is quite broad..Ours,241, was fine except a little noisy in the morning for light sleepers when the delivery trucks start rolling in.Not enough to change rooms, but a factor we would consider for our next visit.
Superb location if you want to leave the car at the hotel, and walk.Enjoyed eating breakfast next door at the Cafe on Main, and had dinner at the in house Whip Bar and Grill(unfortunate name in our opinion, especially if you are from the southern USA).Hotel staff very kind without exception.A well run hostelry in every sense.

Great welcome when arrived. Very enthusiastic clerk who wanted to tell us all about the Inn and the surroundings. Rooms were good. Everything you need. Beds were super soft - great when you first get in but not so good in the morning for your backs!
Fridge in room was very loud and kept waking me up.
Eat in ' The Whip' and would highly recommend a meal here. Service was spot on and food was perfect. Corn chowder was something else followed by a classic turkey dinner. Breakfast was heaven. Top marks for the food here. Special mention must be given to the local ales 'Trapp' lager is a must!

I am thrilled to hear that your meal at The Whip Bar & Grill was absolutely satisfying - I agree, the corn chowder is simply divine. The staff at the Green Mountain Inn strives continuously to provide our guests with stellar service and the most attentive care and I’m happy to read that your experience was no exception. I will have our Maintenance Engineers promptly look into what may be the issue with the in-room mini-fridge. Please come back and stay with us soon and thank you for your review.

The ambiance, grace, and history of the Green Mountain Inn are evident throughout the building. The years have been good to this Stowe landmark, and the current management and staff are up to the task of maintaining a proud tradition. Our room was spacious and elegant, impeccably clean, and warm and inviting on a cold afternoon. It was Restaurant Week in Stowe, so we decided to enjoy the Inn experience fully by leaving the car parked and having dinner at the Whip, an in house eatery. This was a mistake. The contrast between the gracious hotel staff and the listless restaurant staff was striking. It began with the distracted and disinterested bartender, who recited his beer list with the enthusiasm of a bored teenager. It didn't get much better with the hostess gnawing on her pencil as she grimaced at her seating chart. (The place was not full.) But the service hit rock bottom with the server, who would deign to come to our table only when we raised our arms in desperation. Although the fixed prix menu sounded interesting, it was mediocre and made worse by the insolent server. We asked his name, but he wouldn't answer. Bottom line, we'll come to the Inn, and skip the Whip.

While I am happy to read that the historic character of the Green Mountain Inn made your recent stay memorable, I am truly disappointed to read that the experience you had in our restaurant left such a bad mark on your stay. This is certainly not the norm for our staff and I will be sure to share your review with them, in order to demonstrate the need for consistent and outstanding customer service. Please accept my apologies and I hope that during your next stay with us, you will give our restaurant another try. Thank you for your review.
