“Excellent with a few flaws”
Reviewed August 29, 2010

This was our first time to the lodge. Overall an excellent experience with a few flaws. Eventhough we had one of the less expensive rooms, it was very spacious with a beautiful view of Mount Mansfield. The amenities were very good including the pool, spa, fitness center, and restaurant. Some of the flaws included very slow cleanup of room service dishes left in the corridor. Many were there for most of the morning. Also the fact that we were forced to use valet parking was a bit of a turn-off.

Check-in was fast and easy and the rooms were big. The service was great and did not cause us any trouble. Near to the lovely village of Stowe. Our sleep was good and the beds were comfy. I would go back.

My husband and I decided very last minute to travel up to Stowe Mountain Lodge. We took part in the "end of summer days" promotion which gave us a $200 resort credit. Upon arrival we were instantly impressed by the location of the property and then when we walked in the lobby, we were even more excited for this last minute vacation. Check in went smoothly and we headed to our room on the 1st floor. Once we entered the room, while happy with the decor and size, we were a little disappointed at having a room so close to the parking lot. We asked the front desk if there was anything up on a higher floor and they instantly accommodated us. We were moved to a wonderful room on the third floor. The attention to detail for the decor of the room was incredible and the bathrooms, wow, were they amazing. We then proceeded to check out the rest of the property, the spa was incredible, the pool area large and well kept, and the dining areas were large and modern looking. The concierge spent almost an hour telling us about all the different activates in the area, and we then headed off to a yoga class in the fitness center, which was almost like taking a personal yoga class. The breakfasts are definitely worth checking out and the hour glass bar has a cool and diverse selection of drinks, but if you live in a city just be ready to expect pretty slow service. The dinner menu I found to be pretty mediocre but they are currently without an executive chef, so I would give them another shot when we return. The best restaurant in the area to visit is Hen of the Woods in Waterbury, it is as local as you are going to get in an amazing ambiance. Michael's on the Hill was yummy, and Harvest Market is a great lunch spot. Def check out chowhoud for more recs. Only warning I will issue in this review, DO NOT DO THE ALPINE SLIDE. I am shocked that they actually still allow that ride to function without signing a waiver. My husband, while it was totally his own fault, ended up with major 2 degree road burns because his slide flipped when he was going around a corner. When I saw little children on this thing, it really disturbed me. Even though they do issue a “at your own risk” on the stop of the Alpine Slide, it's not a risk I think worth taking, especially with young children. That issue asside, we totally fell in love with the resort and while there are of course some kinks to work out at any large resort, we overall felt the value, service, and experience to be quite amazing and we will be booking a week there for New Years!

We liked this hotel very much .The lobby was beautiful and service was great. However if your in a less expensive room be prepared to walk a very log corrider away from everthing. It was quite and felt isolated but very comfortable .There wasnt a bureau big enough for two but it was still worth it.we played golf after 2pm for the lower price and it cost 300$for 18 holes which was steep for us.The restaurant was very nice and the food was delicious. The bed was so comfortable and you will get a good nights sleep.I would recommend this resort and will visit again in the future

We stayed at the Lodge this past week for a summer getaway. The location is very convenient to town and restaurants. While the property itself is beautiful, especially the public areas but the customer service is lacking. The valet/door staff were exceptional and did an excellent job, however the front desk staff lacked personality and hospitality. Every encounter we had with the front desk was less than optimal, with no attention to detail or wow factor. The property itself is clearly a four diamond, but service wise it's lacking. There are no minibars, vending machines available if you want a candy bar or snack and the retail shops were never open when in the morning or at night.
As other reviews have mentioned don't eat on site. The food isn't very good and the value is even worse. As an example, a bowl of plain vanilla ice cream consisted of two scoops the size of a ping pong ball at the largest for $5.00.
The rooms were ok, but not that large compared to other properties we have stayed at. The beds are rock hard and I had to sleep on the couch due to the discomfort.
Property is fairly new and in good repair. I guess you just have to draw you own conclusion based on this review and the others. I just wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be.

We had a wonderful 4 day stay at this upscale lodge. The room was large with a kitchen and a seperate room with a pull out sofa for our teen boys. Service was very attentive and always with a smile. We were guided well by the concierge and enjoyed fly fishing and hiking. the views of Mt Mansfile are awesome. The spa and pool area are also outstanding with spa service typically pricey for a resort. However there were complimentary classes such as yoga and pilates for the guests. Solistice is an innovative dining experience although again with the typical resort prices. There were really no negatives if you do not mind spending a little extra for a special vacation. Although it was great without the snow, we are looking forward to retuening in the winter.

My review is more for those interested in booking an event at this property. Yes the property is gorgeous and you can't beat the location. My fiance and I saw it online and decided to make an appointment to see if for a potential location for our wedding next Fall 2011. I called and spoke with the Catering Manager. We went up to visit (a 3/12 hour trek) and fell in love with it. Long story short we worked for two weeks with this manager on our a wedding proposal. We were very upfront with how many guests we were expecting (80) and what room we were interested in (the Tamarack Ballroom). We received the proposal with the rooms listed and went over all of the minimums and costs. We spoke with the manager on a Wednesday and she was going to send us the contract the next day. Instead we get an e-mail stating that since our wedding is on the smaller side they aren't comfortable having us in the larger ballroom and would like to move us to the smaller ballroom. She apologized for the "oversight" and said she is "fairly new". Also we had mentioned that we weren't interested in the smaller ballroom, seeing as the larger one has the views of the mountain, is connected to the terrace and has the floor to ceiling windows. I work in a hotel and F&B minimums are the first things that are discussed. Seeing that this was a huge oversite on their part, I feel as though they should have allowed us to continue with our plans (as it was outlined in our proposal and promised to us). We sent a letter to the General Manager of the hotel and never received a response, which I find to be unprofessional. We lost two weeks while we working with them and are now having a hard time finding an open slot another resort for Fall 2011. If you have a large event you will be fine, but if it's on the smaller side, I feel as though they would rather not spend the time. They are on looking at how they can make the most money. If they had been upfront with us about that, I wouldn't have been so upset.
