We stayed in a classic room and I would put it up against a room at a Four Seasons or any other 5 star hotel. The bed was incredible, the bath perfect, really everything about the room was luxury. The overall property I would rank a 4 star. It was really nice and I would stay again and recommend but the surrounding area seemed a little dingy with lot of construction and I was disappointed that there wasn't a great place to sit and enjoy the view. We had a nice dinner in the bar which was pricy but worth it. The bell stand staff was so nice and friendly which really helps this resort. It is a about 5 - 10 minutes from Stowe but without a doubt the nicest resort in the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony and a view.

The Stowe Mountain Lodge at the foot of Mt. Mansfield is a wonderful retreat for a long weekend--and you can bring the kids and pet dog, too. My wife and I just visited for a couple of days using a "Virtuoso Package" that provided us with an immediate upgrade to a one-bedroom suite, free breakfast and $100 hotel credit, which I used for a visit to the Spa (more about that later). The Lodge is not cheap and you can spend anywhere from $200 to $800 per night. But, the accommodations are immaculate, warm and maintained like new. Valet parking is quick and efficient. In fact, on a rainy day, the valet literally ran to get my car! The front desk can be found inside a large, well-furnished and comfortable lobby. It is operated by a professional and friendly staff who provided us with accurate directions and recommendations about local restaurants. The onsite restaurant has great views and the wait staff are ALL friendly, greeting us by name and happy to take a moment to chat. We helped ourselves to bagels and lox the first morning (very good!) and the breakfast buffet for the second morning (also very good!). Sheena was our waitress on day two and she was just charming--an intern from Jamaica who saw her first snow when she came to Stowe last November. Our suite was quite large. The hotel info says these suites are at least 950 sq. ft. It came with a full kitchen, washer and dryer, full dining table and living room area with fireplace and flat screen TV, plenty of closet space including a special closet where you can rest your skis. Since this was a summertime visit, that wasn't a concern. The bedroom is also very large with views of the mountain and again, plenty of closet space with courtesy bathrobes. There is a large marble bathroom, with separate tub and shower and lots of towels. There is a considerable amount of wood in the hotel, from the beams in the lobby, moulding in the hallways, and four-panel doors throughout the rooms. The carpeting is kept spotless, as are the walls, windows and everywhere else. The entire staff bids guests a good day whenever they see you with what appears to be an honest smile! The Lodge also has the largest fitness center I've ever seen. Free weights, weight machines, stationary bikes, ellipticals, treadmills and even fitness classes! But, the best part of our stay was found at The Spa, where we enjoyed a massage experience without compare. The locker rooms are so clean you could eat off the floor. More wood adorns the space. Plush towels and every grooming need is provided for. I was given a key and assigned to a locker where I stored my clothing and valuables in the locker room that I had all to myself. A short walk up a flight of stairs led me to the holding area with multiple chaise lounges where I could help myself to tea and enjoy the outdoor views. About nine other guests were also awaiting to be called for their massage. I had just a five-minute wait till being greeted by Rebecca who did wonders for my stiff neck. Ask for her! You can tip as you exit the spa area. Regular 50-minute massages are $160. You can ask for additional treatments for a fee. Before I left the Spa, I also treated myself to a steam from a perfectly maintained steam room, rain-water shower and a dip in the whirlpool bath--all of which I was able to use alone as the other guests were apparently still in the throes of massage heaven. Although Stowe is known as a ski destination, there's plenty to do besides hit the slopes. The hotel has a large pool, which the kids seem to enjoy immensely. Food can be prepared at poolside for your convenience. The area also has hiking trails, fishing, golf, biking, hot-air ballooning, and more. Additional restaurants are about six miles away. There is also a supermarket on the other side of the tiny village of Stowe, which, though very quaint, has little to offer by way of diversion. A Valero gas station is about seven to eight miles from the hotel. The Stowe Mountain Lodge has much to offer and I look forward to coming back for more!

Stayed here for 3 nights in July.
Its a really nice hotel and the staff are excellent - very friendly and helpful.
You get a nice room and the pool area is great but thats about it....
It just could be so much more....

There were no games / activities for the kids.
There was no 'craft corner' by the pool as mentioned in their brochure.
The kids camp is full day only so no half day options available.
The cool kids slide you see on the video was not operating.
No shuttle into town - its a $25 taxi ride each way.
No camp fire and smores for the kiddies.
The 'enchanted forest playgound' is harmless.

The Mountain View Grand Hotel in NH was much better value and was much more family friendly.

Its still gets 4 stars for being a very nice hotel but just don't expect too much more than a nice room and a nice pool.
On the other hand if you are an adult only party it is probably an entirely different experience as you can avail of the multiple hiking options etc.
My husband did the zip lining tour and said it was amazing.
There's just not much for the little ones....

My family stayed at the Stowe Mountain Lodge for a long weekend with my family and it was fantastic! The food and drinks were really good on property but having a kitchen in our condo was wonderful. The SML is close to "downtown" Stowe and also near other really fun attractions. We loved taking the chairlift to the restaurant at the "top of the mountain" and hiking along the ridgeline. The views were absolutely beautiful! Service was fantastic, great hotel gym, and the pool was awesome. I had a spa treatment and I can say that it was one of the best I've been to! One last thing.... the bed sheets were fantastic. So soft.

Our family has vacationed at Stowe Mountain Lodge for the last four summers. The only other hotels we stay at with family is the Ritz Carlton Properties. Stowe Mountain Lodge has the same level of service as the Ritz Carlton. We stayed in a condo over looking the pool with views of Mount Mansfield highly recommend that view if you are traveling with children. The concierge is key to helping to motivate teenagers. Over three days we went horseback riding inexpensive $40 an hour, on 8 zip lines $100 worth it!, swam in a waterfall after ten minute hike (free), rented bikes and did 10 miles (stopped for ice cream in stowe center). When you got back to resort you could hang in condo on balcony with glass of wine and kids have plenty of room to watch movie in unit. We toasted marshmallows at firepit at pool at night. The condos have kitchettes which comes in handy. Worth the trip if you are looking for relaxation for any age.

Room Tip: Rooms over looking pool are great if you have children

A wonderful place in any weather. Great for skiing as a gondola leaves directly from the property. Great in the spring, summer and fall as your in the mountains with all that they have to offer. The hotel is a first-class property that treats its guests with care.

This hotel delivers an attentive, comfortable stay in a luxurious but eco-friendly environment. This hotel is ideal in every way. The words which best describe Stows Mountain Lodge are beautiful, comfortable, modern, luxurious but not ostentatious and extremely attentive customer-focused staff. First the rooms--- very thoughtfully designed with every aspect in mind for all of the comfort conveniences. Particularly impressive are the size of the rooms. Even the smallest rooms are spacious with a kitchenette area and separate seating area. Other notable features are the mini dishwasher in the kitchenette, the comfortable beds with cotton linen of such a high-thread count that I have never slept in such soft linen and the bathrooms with separate toilet areas apart from the marbled bath area with both a large jacuzzi tub and a glass encased shower. Other nice features of the rooms are the private patio for each room, leather covered studded chairs, electronically-controlled fireplace and a separate storage closet for ski gear.

Also attractive is the ski-in/ ski out location with the gondola which runs straight into the property both summer and winter. The large heated pool and Jacuzzi area are nicely done and nicely designed with a convenient location in the middle of the property. The exercise facility is also top rate with a spacious gym with ample equipment and a variety of exercise classes which will be held even if there is only one guest who shows up for the class. The standout for this property is the friendly, attentive and accommodating staff. At every interaction and turn there is a staff person offering assistance or offering to answer questions. The only negative is that the resort is 6 miles from the heart of the town. Thus, to explore shops and restaurants in town requires some planning. However, it is very uncommon to find a ski property anywhere located at the base of the runs, ski-in/ski-out while at the same time being located in the heart of the town. If I return to Stowe, this will definitely be the place to stay on the next visit.
