We spent 3 weeks at Stone Cottage with our 3 dogs. It was the perfect location for hiking and swimming in Sterling forest, pond and gorge. Tom enjoyed fly fishing in the stream that is on Stone Cottage property. The cottage is perfectly equipped for cooking anything you might want. We even hosted a party for our VT friends just to show them the wonderful setting.

The cottage has several TVs with Direct TV as well as Apple TV. Our phone service was adequate as well as wireless internet.

During our three weeks we experienced a moose sighting as well as the barred owls that seem to live close by and a brief glimpse of a fisher cat.

The property manager Barb was readily available with any questions we might have had.

This place is one of a kind! We will be returning in just a few months for another go!

“Wonderful place to enjoy skiing and winter in Vermont”
Reviewed March 21, 2015 for a stay in February 2015

We rented Stone Cottage during February vacation week 2015. There were record breaking low temperatures that week but we were so cozy in the cottage with the wood burning stove. Most afternoons warmed up enough for skiing at Mt Mansfield or Trapp Family Lodge for cross country which were both within about twenty minutes from the cottage. Pinnacle Ski and Sports did a great job with our rentals.

One of my favorite places near the cottage was the Sterling Forest. It's a short drive down the road (less than five minutes) and was a great place to snow shoe or cross country ski.

The cottage was immaculate, with lots of plush towels and nice bed linens. The caretaker checked in with us during our stay to make sure everything was OK. The kitchen and bathrooms are clean and modern. The owner was very pleasant and easy to work with.

My only caution would be that it may not be best suited for families with small children only because the master bedroom is up one staircase and the other two bedrooms are up another staircase and they don't connect upstairs. For us it was fine as our three children are teens.

“Stowe Stone Cottage”

This is a cosy little stone cottage on a quiet country road in the hills above Stowe. Relatively close to Mt Mansfield for downhill but great X country trials are just a few minutes away in Sterling Forest. It has all the modern amenities and a beautifully equipped kitchen. Great wood burning soap stone fireplace in open living area keeps the place warm and cosy. Only 3 BRs so not suitable for large groups but great for a family or a small group of friends.

Meeting up with friends, I drove from Washington DC, passing through the bustle of New York City. As I drove further north, the falls colors greeted me in vibrant hues of yellow, orange and red. Upon entering Stowe I found a charming town center, passing by the local dairy farm on my left, and soon thereafter a goat creamery on my right.

My expectations were running high as I approached Stone Cottage and they were more than met. Stone cottage has been fully renovated, with an exceptional kitchen. Lots of space for friends to gather, and yet nooks to read a good book or to just look out as nature envelopes you on all sides.

Cross-country skiing is right outside the door. With great downhill slopes very near by. Biking and hiking are a must. Be sure to bring good boots. A short drive away, there is an exceptional interpretative trail taking you all the way down into Sterling Gorge. And the drive approaching the slopes is breathtaking, from the waterfalls, to the tight winding road, to the boulders unexpectedly appearing out of nowhere.

There is a grocery store conveniently located nearby for all the basics, but I would strongly recommended going into town and getting some of the excellent Stowe cheeses, milk, fresh baked breads, muffins etc. And I should not forget to mention the assorted selection of restaurants and cafes. Local farmers market on Sunday is worth the visit.

My stay was far to short and I look forward to returning for more exploring.

My son and I were the first to stay at the Stone Cottage after its extensive recent renovations. The cottage was built by a mason from Scotland using local stones.
