Auberge de Stowe
Ranked #8 of 22 Stowe B&B and Inns
Reviewed November 22, 2010

I'm a professional writer and I often travel to the Auberge for a week at a time with my laptop and research materials for a session of complete Green Mountain deprivation. The hospitality from innkeepers Shawn and Chantal is first rate. They take you in as part of their family while you're there - or they leave you alone to do you own thing - whatever your preference. The coffee is excellent, hot, and flows all day - just like the intelligent discourse that centers in the bright, comfortable dining room. The rooms have free wi-fi and good air conditioning in the hot summer nights. And the metal roof allows the simple please of listening to the rhythm of the rain as you drift to sleep. Shawn is also an accomplished writer and teacher. He's always game for a lively, witty conversation on the issues of the day - and you don't need to twist his arm for him to disappear into the family quarters and reemerge with two glasses and a bottle of good whiskey tucked under his arm. What else can I say? The Auberge receives my highest recommendation. If you prefer the chain hotels and high-priced B&B's, the Auberge is not your speed. But if you like to find those hidden travel gems you only learn about by word of mouth, the Auberge should be your next stay while in the town of Stowe.

I've stayed at the Auberge for years. It's where I head in the summer and it always feels like home. This inexpensive vacation adds days to my stay. The place is unassuming and the Kerivan's couldn't be nicer. Days are quiet and nights might find us talking over wine. I just love the low key atmosphere and homey feel.

Our host were very nice and friendly. They have a nice relaxing hot tub on the deck and a cozy common room. The rooms were comfortable and relaxing. The breakfast was good but a bit continental. All in all we had a great stay.

Great Vermont B&B - thoroughly enjoyed my time and the hosts are simply wonderful people. Extremely helpful in everything Stowe related. Rustic charm of the hotel might not be for someone looking for luxury, but if you're looking for a great B&B to enjoy your time in Stowe, this is it!

After looking at various styles of accommodation with massively varying prices this proved to be a good choice for the money.
My partner who had never stayed in a B&B before initially found the style of lodging a bit strange so if you are used to a hotel with restaurants, tv in room etc it might not be your first choice.
However don't be put off, the owners were easy to talk to and provided answers to all our questions. The breakfasts were plenty enough to get you going each day and the free shuttle bus was easy to catch from across the road. We then discovered the town center was just a short walk away rather than the deceiving "longer" route the bus takes, even better.
Less positive reviews probably owe more to what people expect from "hotel" type accommodation. We would easy stay here again.
Thoroughly recommended!

Stayed with several colleagues and received great service, a breakfast that eliminated the necessity to play predator in the neighborhood and beautiful scenery. The Kerivans are a joy to be around as well with Mr. Kerivan (Shawn) being a resident author and Chantal a delightful conversationalist. Would stay again...definitely ;c)
