“Italian feast”

A full menu with Italian specialties and helpful staff. Everyone found something to like and staff were willing to substitute certain ingredients. Many good desserts, though we couldn't try them all.

“My favorite in Stowe”
Reviewed May 2, 2013

The Tratt is a great restaurant, and really the only place in Stowe for *good* Italian food. According to Tony, he's had many years in high-end restaurant situations, and his love for the business and his customers clearly shows. The ragù alla bolognese is the best I've ever had anywhere. The red table wine is excellent and surprisingly reasonably priced. My wife and I are always warmly greeted whenever we show up. We've had a string of friends join us, and all are equally impressed. If you have a chance, GO!

“Generous Portions!”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

After a long day of skiing our favorites at Stowe Mountain Resort, we stopped at Trattoria for an early Friday evening dinner. We were greeted warmly, seated at a fine little table, and served water and bread. Shortly after, the waiter appeared to provide menus and to describe the specials. Upon hearing the specials, we ordered immediately!

There is plentiful seating at tables as well as a long bar with dinner seating as well. We chose to eat at a table. Because we chose to dine early in the evening, there were several families with small children in the dining room. It appeared that the host made a concerted effort to seat young families in one part of the dining area while seating couples and more mature families in another part- an effort that was appreciated.

The dining area is somewhat dark with the work of local artists displayed on the walls. I would prefer more lighting but no doubt the darkness serves a purpose in keeping the ambiance subdued.

Trattoria has a large selection of wines and the regular dining menu is varied and long. There are plenty of selections for those who do not or cannot appreciate traditional Italian fare. The host and waitstaff are attentive and friendly and make a concerted effort to ensure that you feel welcomed and valued as a guest.

The salads that accompany the meals were nothing special- a small plate of greens covered with a nondescript dressing and (perhaps?) cheese. The bread that was brought to the table prior to the meal was warm, fragrant and delicious and was accompanied by a butter that was lightly flavored with garlic. The dinners were quite good and authentically Italian; the portions were substantial, certainly enough (and perhaps more than enough) to refuel someone who has been skiing or riding all day.

We were offered the opportunity to learn about available desserts but we declined as we had happily filled ourselves with the entrees.

Tip: arrive early if possible; Trattoria fills quickly!

“Nothing special”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

For being an Italian eatery the food was adequate but we found the ravioli dish to be bland. Service & atmosphere were fine but the food a little dull.

“Home Away from Home”
Reviewed February 14, 2013

We have been eating at the Tratt for years now. We usually sit at the bar, and that way we not only enjoy our food, but we have the excellent company of Patti and Tony. Our favorite current items: The Bosca Salad, whatever soup is being served, the Roast Duck, the Steak, the truffle fries, the tuna carpaccio, the catch of the day, and last, but certainly not least - whatever gorgeous, luscious dessert Patti has prepared. She is a highly gifted baker, as well as a creative assembler of non-baked desserts. Skip the tartufos and the canollis - do yourself a favor and have whatever Patti has just made. You will not be sorry. We love this place, and it is one of the only 2 restaurants in town that we frequent regularly.
