I loved the Matterhorn. The food was great, the drinks were awesome and the atmosphere was just the best. Its all and all a classic ski town bar. Prices are reasonable and the service was great. Lots of locals and ski instructors to chat with as well. I can't wait to go back for the brick oven buffalo wings!

For our first evening in Stowe we walked to the nearest eatery next to our lodgings which was the Matterhorn Restaurant. From the outside it did not look particularly inspiring but since hunger was our main concern we entered via the bar area and pre-ordered some drinks and got a table overlooking the river. The staff were extremely sociable, polite and friendly and chatted away to us as we perused the menus. We had stone oven pizzas all round and they were absolutely delicious together with a bottle (or two) of the recommended house wine. The dining area had a nice, quiet, casual ambience while the bar area had more of a buzz throughout our stay. Great helpings were the order of the day but freshly cooked and a joy to eat. Our final bill for four was quite a surprise too which added to the overall enjoyment of the occasion. In fact it was so good that we went back the following evening and were welcomed as friends. If you want great wholesome food then this is a gem of a place.

stopped by on a beautiful fall evening - service at the bar was friendly and prompt - sushi was an excellent surprise. Knowledgable bartender educated us on the local brews, things to do in town for the weekend. Looked like the crow definitely picked up as the evening went along, it got crowded but never unpleasant.

We tried out this restaurant b/c of we wanted an earling dinner and their website advertised a '$5 off lg pizza before 5pm' deal. Unfortunately the deal is only during 'season' we learned once we sat down, which is during the winter/ski time. We still got a pizza, along with a burger, wings, and salad. The burger was only average and overcooked, but everything else exceeded our expectations. I was expecting average bar food, but this was definitely elevated pub food. The pizza was excellent - $15 w/ 1 topping - cooked in wood fire, nice crust, lots of gooey fresh cheese, and a tangy fresh sauce. I was so impressed - and I'm a bit of a pizza snob! The salad was crisp and full of different greens. The wings were nice and spicy - and they throw them in the wood oven at the end to give them a nice char and smokiness to make them a bit unique. The atmosphere is kinda yuck in the front/bar area but we sat in one of the handful of tables facing the river - which was lovely! This was our best dining experience in our four days in Stowe - much to our surprise.

Positives:
The warm sake was a perfect balance to the chilly night. The sushi bar had a cozy glow by the fire and was perfect for pleasant conversation. Our sushi was fresh and amazing! The staff was on- point, and on top of all that my date was a total gem :]

Definitely recommend to those who like good food and great service!

Negatives:
our candle went out. Tragic.
