Stayed with a friend at the Bears Lair inn on the Mountain Road in the resort town of Stowe, Vermont one night last weekend. All the other hotels on the mountain road were booked with a couple of exceptions, all of which were $250 or more per night. Booked a room at a much more reasonable price and had the wonderful benefit of spending time with the on-site owner. He cared about his property, he went out of his way to make us feel comfortable and, most importantly, he joined us and another hotel guest whom we just met for a cocktail in a nice outdoor setting at the Inn on a beautiful summer Vermont evening. The hotel was a great value, the value of spending an evening with a man who had owned the hotel for 25 years and was willing to go out of his way to make a guest he had never met before comfortable - priceless.

Room Tip: Some rooms are on the second floor with a staircase.

Ok, we drive up and first thought is "uh-oh, this isn't good". The outside is old and worn but when you walk in its cozy and welcoming. Owner Bill was friendly and welcoming. The rooms were a good size and beds were comfortable. We slept great! It was nice and quiet despite it being a full house. The bathroom was small but most importantly it was clean. The Wifi worked fine in our room on the first floor. In the common area was where breakfast was served. The breakfast was great! Made to order every morning. There was a small menu but with good choices such as omelettes, scrambled eggs, blueberry pancakes, waffles, potatoes, sausage, bacon etc. there was also choice of cereal, yogurt and granola. We love our breakfast so this was a plus!

If looking for a place to stay in Stowe give this B&B a chance.

The hosts were great. Kind of out of the way...if you want quiet...here is the place to stay. Stuffed animal bears everywhere..hence the name. Wifi didn't work well in our room but if you go downstairs to the dining room and common areas, wifi worked well. We were there when there was a big lacrosse tournament going on...so I saw alot of families in the area and thought oh great...with families staying there it will be noisy....nope...it was soooo quiet!!! Thanks!!! The bed in our room was very comfortable also. The pool was being fixed at the time so we didnt get to use it.

Bill and Carolyne are marvelous hosts - very knowledgeable and entertaining. They are very welcoming, making you feel right at home. The rooms are charming. We had a wonderful suite complete with a jacuzzi, dinette and fireplace. The breakfasts are really delicious with several choices to choose from. The Bear's Lair always attracts friendly people and chatting with them at breakfast is always enjoyable.

Room Tip: Not a bad room in the place! Second floor rooms have good views of the mountains.

My wife and I have been to stowe many times, we have had the best time and experience with Bill and Carolyn Cook. We have loved the decor of the Bears Lair inn. Bill and Carolyn are gracious host's. The breakfast's were delicious, and I found the beds comfortable and the atmosphere to be cozy and inviting. I would definitely recommend staying at the Bears Lair inn on your next trip to Stowe Vermont.
