“Food good but service variable”

We ate at the resturant on 2 nights. First time great service and food, second time good food but not service. In fairness it was Columbus weekend and very busy so it may have been a bad night.

“Mediocre food, bad service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2010

While visiting Stowe, we tried Frida's and were highly disappointed by food and service. We had European relatives visiting on holiday who don't speak much English and needed a bit extra time looking over the menu. The waitress was quite indignant about having to come back and let us know about her annoyance by rolling her eyes and huffing & puffing when we sent her away a second and third time after giving us about two minutes in between. The service got even better from there because she decided to ignore us for the next twenty minutes as we hadn't been ready on her schedule - so now she made us wait. Quite the display of hospitality! The food, although displayed nicely on their dishes, was average for Mexican food and the portions were extremely small. The men in our party left hungry and decided to rather grab a small bite at another restaurant because they were dissatisfied with food and service at Frida's and had no intention of lengthening the ordeal. If you're a normal eater, order double of whatever you think you want.

“Great Mexican Right in the Village”

Cute, casual mainstream Mexican restaurant right in the village of Stowe. Young crowd, good place to take the family. Recommended!

“Don't miss this, not the usual Mexican food!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2010

During a recent visit to Stowe, my wife and I decided we had heard enough good things of this restaurant we would give it a try. It was one of the best decisions of the trip. We started with a Margarita which turned out to be the best one we have ever had in New England. Rather than the too sweet variety which seems popular in the northeast, this one was pleasantly tart, although not unduly so. The appetizer we chose were spicy sauteed scallops, a very nicely prepared dish. My wife had a trio of tacos and I had a mushroom and vegetable enchilada. All parts of the entrees were excellent. We are eager to return to Stowe to sample other parts of this unusual menu.

“Mediocre at best”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2010

The guacamole, prepared tableside by a frazzled waitress, was probably the only thing we got here that was particularly good. The salsa was not good at all, it almost reminded me of tomato sauce -- no kick whatsoever. Quesadillas were fine, nothing out of the ordinary. The service wasn't great, and the waitress forgot one of the items I ordered. On the positive side, it was probably the cheapest meal we had in Stowe.
