We visited the "Notch" road this late Februrary weekend and the winter conditions are still fabulous for cross country skiing, snow shoeing, hiking on the hard packed snow and dog walking. The snow is still covering the tops of the guard rails so there is a great base. The parking area is just beyond the parking lots for Stowe ski resort and both sides were well plowed for plenty of parking. No facilities though so be prepared for that. Bring a camera...the ice and snow up on the cliffs is beautiful.

Make sure you have the right shoes, and just explore and enjoy.

It's a bit of a drive to get here, (past many wonderful areas, and views, but well worth the trip. The hike and views are wonderful.

But I certainly want to come back and visit. It looks spectacular. It would be good if we could indicate seasonal openings on tripadvisor. Looks like it is only open from May to October

OK, some good views, makes more sense to go to the area for the skiing, which is pretty good when the conditions are

We had a fantastic time at the Smuggler's Notch State Park. This small park, with friendly, helpful staff offered us great value for our money when were visited in the fall.

The bathrooms were spotlessly clean. They did feature pay showers, requiring quarters. 4 minutes = 50 cents. The showers were hot and had full pressure. There is no warning when the time will cut off and the water will stop, so be aware of your timings.

The campsites were so clean you could see the marks from where the soil and dirt had been raked.

The campsites were much smaller than what I was used to from Ontario Provincial Parks, where you can put several tents and dining shelters on one site. Pay close attention to the size descriptions when booking - some will really just fit a small tent. Large sites might fit two medium tents but it may be best to call in advance to double check. Only small and medium tents will fit under the wooden "lean-tos" that come with premium sites.

Several sites require you to park on the side of the road and walk a few steps up to the campsite. There are no "walk in" sites that require any kind of hike - it really is just a few steps and you can always see your car. But it would be important for those with mobility concerns.

The signs giving the name/number of campsites can be hard to see as they are very small and somewhat obscured. We drove around a few times because we passed our site!

Overall, clean, quiet, excellent value, beautiful location.
