“Absolutely magical!”
Reviewed August 6, 2014

If there were more than five stars, I would add more! What a fantastic stay we had at the Trapp Family Lodge. The room was spacious, clean, offered a wonderful view over the valley, and was beautifully appointed in the Austrian decor. The grounds are beautiful and we enjoyed our exploring. We ate breakfasts and dinners at the Lodge and lunch at the Bakery-Deli. The food was delicious each time and there was a nice selection of food and beverages. The staff was so very friendly and helpful; we felt truly cared for. We have been here before and hope to be able to come often!!

This has been on the list of places to go in New England for years and it finally came together over July 4th. We only stayed two nights as the rates are high, but it was a major holiday and when you see what is included within the 2,500 acre property, you realize there is a lot to maintain. The best priced rooms at close to $300 are in the Lodge, but if you have a large group and can do so, there are villas & guest houses that run $400-$600 and more I'm sure, I just stopped looking.

There are lots of activities here in the off-season - mountain biking, swimming, hiking, walking, tennis, horse drawn rides and more. When you've had your fill, you can try their own beer made on site or try the dining room. We went for breakfast & it was very well done, buffet or from the menu. You can also go to the Fitness Center and soak in the outdoor hot tub overlooking the beautiful mountains when you want to unwind. There is also an exercise room with an indoor and outdoor pool right next to it. There are photos all over the property of the family and guests over time along with a nice gift shop with Maria von Trapp's book among other things.

The town of Stowe is four miles from the Lodge, so you'll need the car, but once you get there you can park and stroll to any of the many restaurants, shops, lodges or ice cream shops. It's very nice country in the Stowe area, and if you've never been, I think you'll be glad you finally made it.

Room Tip: I actually forgot to specify room preference, but the luck of the draw turned out ok, I got an upper...

Thank you for the very comprehensive review of your recent stay with us. We are glad you chose the 4th of July holiday to visit us - the first big holiday of summer! Thank you for mentioning how many activities we do have on our property and for recognizing it is a lot to maintain; we love being able to give guests the chance to immerse themselves in the beauty of the green mountains and enjoy the peace and solitude our resort offers. Our close proximity to Stowe, 2.5 miles to the center of Stowe Village, gives guests the best of both worlds. We hope to welcome you to our resort again! Rebecca

We have two time-share weeks in the guests houses at Trapp, but we also spend a good bit of time at the Lodge, swimming in their quiet pool, or dining at the Lodge or getting drinks at the lounge and listening to John Cassel, their pianist. Although we could trade one or both of our weeks for a stay somewhere else, we love our time at Trapp so much that we have never traded, in the eighteen years that we have been going there.

The staff of the Lodge (and the guest houses) is as accommodating as one could possibly ask.
Service is prompt and cheerful. Guests can be as lazy or energetic as they prefer -- hiking, biking, swimming, playing tennis, playing disc golf, etc. -- and the Stowe area has plenty to offer if one chooses to leave the Lodge property for a few hours.

We always regret to leave when our two weeks are finished.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Worcester Mountains.

This is an awesome lodge with a ski shop attached. There is plenty to do on site.
It is a bit overpriced. The hotel food was ok but not worth the price. Go into town and have meals there, much nicer places.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay in 2013. We are delighted you were able to enjoy our lodge, cross-country skiing (55k of groomed/tracked trails of all abilities) and other activities. HOpe you had a chance to soak in our outdoor hot tub that overlooks the Worcester Mountains and valleys. We are sorry you were disappointed in our menu offerings. We have a new Director of Food and Beverage and Executive Chef who has revamped our menus at all three food outlets. Hope to welcome you back again this winter! Rebecca

This lodge blends Old World charm with all the modern amenities to please and delight travelers of all ages. The scenery, the varied choice of activities, the on-site restaurants, the appealing room decor, the comfortable beds, the balconies, and the hallways filled with historic photos of the lives of the Trapp family all combine to make this a very pleasant and enjoyable stay.

Don't miss this historical tour of the Trapp Family. We were thrilled to have as our guide Maria's granddaughter who did an excellent job of relating family stories and history. The movie of Maria telling her own story was wonderful and if you buy her book- as you read it you can almost hear her reading it to you.. The grounds around the hotel were beautiful and very peaceful. Definitely a highlight of our vacation in Vermont. We did not stay in the lodge but enjoyed our lunch in the restaurant and our afternoon there.

We are delighted you were able to enjoy the Trapp Family History Tour. Kirstina von Trapp Frame, Maria's granddaughter, is so pleased to know how much you enjoyed her as your guide. You captured the very essence of the "Maria" movie in that how hearing the story told in her own words gives you a true understanding of how she and the Captain met, fell in love, and with their nine children (7 from his previous marriage, two of their own children and Maria pregnant with their youngest son, Johannes), escaped the Nazi regime who had invaded Austria and eventually settled in Stowe, Vermont. Thank you for recommending us to other travelers who may or may not be staying with us. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to our resort again. Rebecca

Visited over a weekend in January with my husband and four kids. We had a one bedroom, the living room had a pull out sofa which fit our three youngest, staff was kind enough to provide a cot for my oldest. Planning on returning this month, will be staying in a 2 BR for added room/comfort. Clean rooms with comfortable furnishings. Plenty to do over winter visit, including cross country skiing on numerous trails on the property (lessons, rentals provided), game room (board games, puzzles) with large fireplace, access to indoor pool, craft beer and good menu at bakery. Numerous options for breakfast at the lodge. Town of Stowe is charming, we ate at a fondue restaurant one night and the kids enjoyed the interactive eating. Beautiful views from just about anywhere.

Thank you for your comprehensive review of the suite in which you stayed last winter with your three children. I am sure this is very helpful for other travelers with children. We also appreciate the compliments of activities and that there is "plenty to do" while visiting. We now sell breakfast burritos at our DeliBakery that are very popular for an on-the-go breakfast. I am guessing you enjoyed Fondue by Heinz - it is very popular and children do enjoy this type of eating. We hope you return to visit us again. Rebecca
