“Consistently wonderful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2012

My family have been coming to the Trapp Family Lodge for the past 10 years. We usually visit 1-3 times per ski season. This lodge has a European feel to it with great service, clean rooms, a great restaurant, and wonderful views. We have ventured to other lodges in Stowe and keep coming back to the Trapp Family Lodge as our favorite. My teenage daughters like bringing friends and staying in a Villa is perfect. This place is and will always be something we look forward to at the end of a long drive to Northern Vermont.

The Trapp Family Lodge is the most beautiful family resort I have ever been to in the states. It has such a warm and cozy feeling. The staff are amazing! They are all so friendly and helpful at all times. The rooms are very nice. We loved sitting by the fire place in one of the many family rooms playing "jenga" or making puzzles. Outside our door we put on our skis and went cross country skiing on some fantastic network of trails. We came home having felt well rested and a bit spoiled by the trip...back to life now.

Room Tip: We were on the top floor facing east...nice sunrise, easy access to xcountry skiing and has adjoinin...

We have returned to trapp family lodge as guest house owners and never tire of the vista and the hospitality that this lodge supplies. I have read some of the negative reviews but I would not agree. The guest houses provide 6 people with a comfortable family stay that always brings my family closer. Snow showing was great as well as a much deserved massage . Wine tasting and a lovely meal on the dining room completed our weekend. I would recommend highly

Our initial impression was not very positive since we arrived at the Trapp Family Lodge late in the evening and after they had experienced a 3 hour blackout. We were tired and hungry and the dining room had closed early due to the lack of electricity. We went in search of a snack machine but none was available. Nevertheless, after a good night´s sleep and breakfast, we found the lodge to be a charming place. The room decor is a bit tired but comfortable. The furniture in the lounge areas need replacement as they reminded me of a frat living room (mismatched chairs with frayed fabric) BUT the view, the location, and the service are spectacular! The Trapp Bakery is a great place for a quick breakfast (mainly pastries and coffee) or light lunch. The cross country ski services are great. The lodge offers daily family movie screenings at 8:00pm. One day after returning from skiing we found that our room heater did not work. They sent someone to fix it immediately (although it took until 10:30pm since the problem was more complicated than they thought at first). All in all, we would definitely return to this hotel which made us feel welcome by their wonderful employees and that has one of the most beautiful views in the area.

I was very dissapointed with our stay.  First off our car got stuck on the road about 1.5 miles from the lodge because our rental car didn't have winter tires or 4 wheel drive.  We called the lodge multiples times asking for help and telling them exactly what road we were on and that another guest in a car behind us was also stuck and it still took them one hour to "find us".  The woman we talked to couldn't even feign sympathy for our situation and then when they finally came we were told it was our fault because we were on the wrong road.

Needless to say we were pretty upset, but I think we would have gotten over it except for the fact that everything seemed to be slightly below par.  We felt that for the money we expected it to be nicer and have better service.  It wasn't horrible, but for the price we thought it didn't quite meet our expectations.  For example the menu was limited, never changed and had no veggitarian options.  And they weren't very flexible.  Everything is at an additional cost including all activities and even the coffee that sits out in the fitness center.  It felt a bit stingy, like all they care about is making as much money as possible rather than making you feel welcome and taken care of.

We were very happy with the villa we stayed in.  It was very nice and comfortable for a family of 6.  And we were very happy to have a kitchen.

The harvest market and the Dutch Pancake Cafe in town were highlights.

This lodge has a spectacular view on the mountainside. It's a high quality, friendly place.

We went on the Trapp Family Historic Tour. It is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11am and lasts about two hours. Price is $10 for hotel guests and $15 for everyone else. We were not guests and felt very welcome. Tickets can be purchased on the spot at the gift shop downstairs. We had about 30 people on our tour.

The tour starts with an hour by a family member or staff who walk you through the lodge. They stop in Maria's former suite to show you the family tree. They tell you details about family history and compare it to the movie Sound of Music.

At noon you go back downstairs to watch a 30 minute documentary where Maria returned to Salzburg for the last time. She tells the family history in her own words.

Afterwards a family member answers questions. We had Johannes' wife who was elegant and full of great information. She also autographed books.

There are two restaurants where you can eat after. They fill up fast so be sure to rush upstairs. One is on the main level. The deli is about 200m down the road.

Thank you to the family or accomodating tourists on the guided tour. It's another example of the warmth and caring of the Trapp family.

We have stayed here many times, in the hotel and in the timeshares and the property has so much going for it, first of all, it is just a beautiful piece of land. Second the staff is very, very nice and friendly. We have only stayed in the winter and the cross country skiing is wonderful. The lodge is great, the rooms are on the small size and the food is expensive and really not that tasty. The timeshares are nice, a lot of wood and a kitchen that is good, so overall, no complaints but no doubt an expensive vacation, no matter how you do it.
