The Golden Eagle is supposed to be one of the better hotels in Stowe & we stayed there based on other reviews.

The facility looks like it was last updated in the 1950s. We thought the room was less-than-clean and dark, furnished with the heavy furniture ala Holiday Inn 30 years ago. The "included" breakfast was below average diner food. Also, the lobby had some sort of funky odor - not cleaner, not smoke, but definitely weird.

If you are looking for a vintage ski resort to take you way back in time, are not much for housekeeping or maintenance, and don"t mind spending top dollar for the experience, this could be your place!

On the plus side...the staff was friendly and the location was good. The room we had had a strong mildew odor, the laminate was peeling off the vanity, the heater in the bathroom was covered with rust, the bed frame and mattress was noisy, the quality of the room appearance was not representative of a resort. For the room price, we expected a clean, odor free room with nice amenities. The resort brought in a maintenance person to address the bed issues and they also tried to purify the air but it didnt work. We decided to leave after the first night.

We thought we had arrived on a different planet as we drove up to the reception. We had never seen a resort like this before, the location was breathtaking, the amenities at the resort superb, the friendliness of the staff was everything you would wish for. We hadn't expected this stop-off to be as good as it was or we would almost definitely stayed longer.

We had one night here whilst touring New England. This was a lovely hotel very near all the shops. A nice touch was the cheese and wine they offered us in reception.
The room was very nice on the gournd floor in the north block.
We cannot comment on all the facilities as did not use any of them due to our short stay. The staff were very good and very cheerful.
We would certaily use this hotel again.

Golden Eagle Resort

I stayed here with my wife and our three children in August. We had a great holiday and would recommend both the resort and Stowe itself.

The resort is extremely well cared for with v nice grounds and good facilities. Great location within walking distance of the town centre compared to some of the other "resort" style hotels which are further out on Mountain Road. Worked well with our young children because there was space in the grounds for them to run around on grassy areas in safe place + good playground with pirate ship + two outdoor pools. Did some kid friendly days out at Ben + Jerry's and boat trip in Burlington. Also cycled the rec path with kids on bikes with training wheels.

We used the Apple Tree kids club on a couple of days for our two eldest sons (3 and 5). This wasn't all that well publicised but worked v well and gave me and my wife some time out to go up Mount Mansfield for the day. Our kids stayed on site but there was an option to go offsite on a day out as well.

We stayed in one of the fireside two-bedroom apartments on the ground floor. Think there were maybe 4 of these, 2 upstairs, 2 downstairs. Each one is on two levels had lots of living space + deck area outside leading to lawn with bbq. Furnishing was slightly dated but like the rest of the resort v clean and well kept and easily big enough for the 5 of us. Proper kitchen also with fridge\freezer\microwave\oven and lots of storage space for all of our stuff.

Overall, great location for a family holiday. We'd looked at some of the other family resorts in the area but they were extremely expensive and the resort activities seemed pretty full on. If you're looking for a bit of backup with childcare together with some days doing your own thing as a family then I would definitely recommend it.

Overall a real steal at $99 a night over labor day weekend. The staff was very friendly and laid back. The room was super clean but a bit dated. The location is in the heart of stowe within a few miles everything you want to do in town. Walking trails are great - novices can even enjoy them. Weight room is dated but the pools were clear and clean. OVerall a great place to stay - would recoemnd and return.

Having been to Stowe once before and loving it, we decided to come back for our honeymoon. We choose the Golden Eagle due to its many amenities - indoor and outdoor pools, spa facilities, hiking trails and price. The grounds are beautifully kept, the flowers impressive and the staff is so accomodating. We had a lovely large room with king bed, fireplace, jacuzzi tub, separate bath and private deck overlooking the pond and woods. Just what we needed after all those months of planning our wedding. The included full breakfast was amazing with specials everyday, all perfectly prepared and so filling it got us thur the day. The little touches like coffee, tea and cookies available are nice. We spent a lot of time hiking Mansfield and Smugglers Notch. golfing and I especially enjoyed the outdoor pool. With all the kids around, you would think it would have been noisy, but it wasnt a problem for us. Great location for the bike path, walking into town and walking to restaurants. We are looking forward to comming back to Stowe and The Golden Eagle.
