“Quiet and clean”
Reviewed March 1, 2009

We stay at the Golden Eagle resort every year during the presidents week school vacation. It is convenient to the mountain for skiing, has a great breakfast and is clean and comfortable. Resort is not the word I would choose - it is more glorified motel. That being said, the rooms are large and the people who choose to stay here are much like ourselves - families who want a good night sleep before spending the day skiing. I never once heard our neighbors once we were in our room. We couldn't even hear the snow plows the one night that it snowed.

The pool is a good size, there is a great game room for kids, including fussball, billiards and various video games. The owners give a very nice wine and cheese party every Monday evening and we enjoyed meeting them and the other guests, many of whom came from Europe. There are skating parties a couple of nights a week and the owner also leads a snow-shoe trek through the property's trails.

The hotel staff was very helpful with restaurant recommendations, getting us a cot, and recommending a local auto mechanic for a minor problem with our car. We had a problem with our shower and a handyman was in our room within 5 minutes.

I had a massage in the spa which was pretty good - and inexpensive - $75 for and hour. It helped tremendously with a sore shoulder.

After reading the reviews on this site, I booked a room here and was pretty disappointed. It's really just a motel and not a very nice one at that. I'd say the name "resort" is kind of a misnomer. There is a fitness center, but it's tiny and a pool that was full of splashing kids and pretty unappealing. The place is spread out all over the place and things like the cookies in the lobby (out of a box, it seemed) are events you would never even go to since the rooms and restaurant are quite far from the lobby itself. Our room was clean, with a depressing standard issue motel decor. Nothing was actually wrong, but nothing was really especially nice, either. Even with the liner inside the tub, water ran all over the bathroom when any of us showered. The TV was old, but it did work. For the price ($240/night for three on a weekend in Feb.), it was really a disappointment. The only good things about this place are that it's relatively close to the mountain and the included breakfast is excellent. Served in a cafe on site, the waitresses are friendly and there's lots to choose from on a regular menu, not a buffet. Much better than the usual "breakfast included" type of fare. We ate here for three mornings and everything was great. Large portions and the blueberry pancakes are fantastic.

The Golden Eagle surpassed our expectations. We shopped around for several weeks before opting for the Eagle. Its value for money seemed excellent: 5 nights, 4 days skiing (2 adults + 2 Children) for $1100 US. The accommodation looks basic from the outside, but our room had everything a 4* would expect. However it was the little extras which really made the place special. Excellent service, spa, free internet access, afternoon hot chocolate, cheese and wine Monday welcome, etc etc. The hotel acts as if it is a 5*, yet has rock bottom prices. You will have to walk outside to reach the spa, reception, and for breakfast at the Colonial. It is more of a resort. The food and service at the Colonial in particular was exceptional (and included in the price – less a $5 tip – our choice).
Nearby are a number of restaurants, the Partridge, Pie in the Sky, Ye Old England and Red Basil. We ended up driving to further a field; Harrisons being the best.
We rarely give a hotel / motel an A+ rating, but value for money and exceptional service deserve an outstanding report. We were so happy, we’d actually come back – not our usual line, as we normally like to explore new places. Family owned & operated and it showed!

Arrived in February just after a huge snowfall. The first room they put us in was between a large group of teenagers on a skiing trip. Way too much noise for us. One call to the front desk and they immediately moved us to a larger secluded room on the side of the property. They were very accommodating! The morning breakfast was excellent with a wide selection of items to choose from. The resort is within walking distance to the village. We had a wonderful time and will return again to the Golden Eagle.

I was in Stowe for the height of the leap-peeping season, and despite the high traffic and the fact that I was travelling alone, the room I received was excellent, large, spotless, with a big, comfortable bed. It was a "deluxe king" room on the second floor, and so came with a small balcony, which gave a lovely view of the small pond, the turning trees and gazebo on the property and out into the valley beyond. Very beautiful. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The price was also quite reasonable. The location is as advertised, about a half-mile from the center of Stowe village, but easily walkable and with easy access to the beautiful village recreation path. If a half-mile is too far (there really isn't much in the town anyway), there are restaurants all along the road, which is the main drag up to the ski resorts. Breakfast was pretty good, about like a standard coffee-shop breakfast but on the B & B plan, as I was, it was included and adequate. I didn't use them as I was basically out looking at nature but there are nice facilities on-site, including an indoor swimming pool. Tea in the lobby in the afternoon is a nice touch, although it doesn't change the fact that this is basically a large hotel, not a "Vermont Inn" kind of thing. Nevertheless, overall highly recommended.

The room we were assigned was a dump. We did not stay. They charge your card as soon as you make the reservation. I see why.

The said they couldn't move us, they were full. Fat chance.

Resort is very well located for visiting all the attractions in and around Stowe. We were upgraded to a deluxe room with jacuzzi for no extra charge. Staff was very friendly and informative. Included breakfast at the Colonial Cafe was very good and filling. We did not use the services of the spa, but we did check out the facilities and they seemed top-notch. We felt the value was good and would probably stay here again.
