“Great Golden Eagle Resort !”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2008

Great location.
I went with my fiance for the Labour day week end.
I really appreciated the service: we checked in very promptly .

The room 184 is great Clean, extra pillows extra covers and towels.
Right in front of our room and from our patio door we could see the peaceful pond surrounded by tall pine trees.
Every night we would drag the long chairs to the pond and lay down and watch shooting stars.

We got there late at night the view was beautiful and very relaxing.
The resort have it's own trail for hiking. Calm, the nature was gloriously charming and breathtaking.
The service to the room was excellent.
Thank you sweetheart ...Great escape vacation!

Stayed at the resort April21-26th. We stayed on the 2nd floor of the terrace wing and our suite was beautiful and very quiet. It had a whirlpool tub and a fireplace. Very homey and I liked the fact I never heard a sound from other rooms.
The pool and game room were alot of fun and you can't beat the location of the resort. Downtown Stowe is about 5 minutes away from the propery. The Stowe bike path is alot of fun and is fun to walk also. The Swimming Hole is an indoor pool with slides and is also worth your visit. My son and I had a blast there. Pie In the Sky is a pizza place almost adjacent to the property and is worth your time also.
Everyone was very friendly at the resort and I enjoyed the breakfasts in the morning. Will visit again, I personally like the April slow time at this resort. It is very peaceful and relaxing.

We stayed at in the 1867 house and our review of the room was the same as the last person who left a comment here. It was a little creepy but the kids loved it. Besides that, on our first night we went to the game room and the pole from the fooseball game came flying out and I was injured! Aside from that, our trip was lovely. We enjoyed the resort with our kids and also went to Stowe Mountain and had a blast on the alpine slide, bugee/trampoline and rock climbing wall. We went to Ben & Jerrys, a maple syrup factory and the Apple Cider Mill. Had dinner next door to the resort at Mr. Pickwicks at the Old English Inn which was nice but very pricey with a family of 5. Overall, it was a great vacation because it's what you make of it. I would stay at the resort again but perhaps not in the upstairs of the 1867 house. The staff was very friendly and the place was clean. Not bad for the money and for a first time family trip to Vermont!

The brochures and website list the "resort" as having 2 outdoor and 2 indoor pools. It does. What it doesn't mention is that the resort sells pool/resort memberships for local use. This isn't my attempt at being exclusive. The pools were overburdened, to the point of being unsafe. One pool became dangerous because there were so many kids (20) jumping at the same time. No one is attempting to ensure safety or that the paying guests are getting what they signed up for. Sell memberships. Fine. But let the customers know so we can make a fair decision. If I wanted an overcrowded experience, I could have stayed home or gone to Cape Cod. The website and brochures are intentionally misrepresentative of the experience. Worst of all, the staff doesn't care.

We stayed there last August. We stayed in the 1867 suite. The building we stayed in was an old house from the 1800's split up into 3 'apartments' located on the resort property near the road. The suite was a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom suite with a living room and kitchenette. Upon arrival we walked up the creaky stairs that had peeling paint. The minute we opened the door we were greeted by a musty smell. We went to turn the light on and the light switch broke off. (First impression wasn’t too great). In the kitchen there were 2 refrigerators. An old white one that was broken which was replaced with an even older olive green one placed on a flimsy table. I understand the room was supposed to be quaint but I wouldn’t consider a saggy couch, yellow wallpaper and a noisy green refrigerator charming or quaint to say the least. The bedrooms were a lot nicer with comfortable beds and a clean, updated bathroom. There was something a little creepy about the place though. There were mysterious trap doors and a door that appeared to be nailed shut that lead to some stairs. The floors were very creaky. The upside was it was close to the resorts pool. The indoor pool was nice and clean. Aside from the room the resort was charming. The lobby was inviting with Chinese checkers and a green mountain coffee machine in it. There was a nice new game room and a nice breakfast place. Unfortunately the waitress seemed to have a bit of an attitude. The food was great and affordable. To be honest there isn’t a lot to do in Stowe the summer, especially when it rains 3 out of the 4 days you spend there. There is a nice bike path and the mountain with the alpine slide. It seems like it would be better to stay in the winter for skiing. Overall we wish we stayed at the regular resort. The rooms seemed a lot nicer, much more updated more affordable.

This is not a hotel/motel. This is truly a "resort". The service from all was exceptional. The grounds were beautifully maintained. The pools and room were very clean. A great place for a summer vacation with young children. My girls (ages 3 and 5) made lots of new friends.

We stayed in a basic deluxe room but it was larger than most hotel rooms. The only draw back to the room was that it did not have a microwave (but had a mini fridge). No worries, we would walk over the meeting room and use their kitchen that was open to the guests. We would put one of our own DVD's in and watch a movie while the kids ate. They also have the best Pizza across the street. After a long day of activities (such as the alpine slide, bike rides, canoeing, driving the toll road up Mt. Mansfield) it was great to go back to the resort with a pizza and eat by the pool.

The kids even loved the fishing on site. They provide everything from the fishing poles to the bait and a well stocked pond. On one occassion, they ran out of bait, so the gardener helped us turn over rocks and earth to find some worms. He even offered to drive into town to get us some more bait. The housekeeping noticed that we had children so they left us a mini bottle of dish soap with a note saying it would be easier to clean the kids cups & bottles. The front desk also would open the joining room for us when it wasn't booked so we could have more room. Try a massage and ask for Shirley. I LOVE Shirley! My hour massage lasted 90 minutes. I cannot say enough about the service.

Location is great also. You can easily walk into the town center from the hotel. The recreational path is across the street and down a slight hill. Very easy to reach. There is a bike rental across the street if you don't want to tote your own and you can access the bike path from the bike rental shop.

Can't wait to go back!

We stayed at the Golden Eagle from July 26 to August 1. Check in was quick and easy. We were traveling with a small dog and were given one of their pet friendly rooms with two queen beds. The room was very clean, if dated. There were a few broken tiles in the bathroom, for example. We spent a lot of time at the resort, which has extensive grounds. My 10 year old son loved playing tennis and shuffleboard, and spent a lot of time in one of the outdoor pools. He also appreciated the gameroom and looking for frogs at the ponds. I enjoyed an hour and 1/2 massage with Shirley at the spa.

We ate breakfast at the Colonial Cafe twice and it was very tasty and filling. There are several restaurants within easy walking distance from the resort. The resort provided complimentary cookies and iced tea from 3 pm to 6 pm every day. There was also complimentary coffee available 24/7.

If you are looking for a luxury experience, you'd be better off spending huge chunks of money at the Topnotch. But if you are looking for a family/pet friendly vacation with lots to do, the Golden Eagle might be the right place for you and your family.
