“Great place, great value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2014

The rate here was extremely reasonable, and before arriving I had my fingers crossed that I hadn't bought a pig in a poke. But this place is very nice, and, as important, well kept. The indoor pool, hot tub and sauna all worked perfectly! Sounds like no big deal. But if you travel, you find that lots of place, for example, advertise hot tubs and sauna, and when you arrive they don't work. Or they are unappetizing. Not here. Everything well maintained, and you get a sense that management is on top of everything. Front desk was fine. Lent me snow shoes. Room was fine, again neat and clean. Location near downtown, about 15 minute drive to ski area. I liked the layout, too. Rooms were very quiet. Reading some of the disappointed reviews made me think those people are luxury travelers, Nothing wrong with that. Luxury travelers may be disappointed. But If you appreciate excellent value, this is the place for you.

This place is fabulous! I cannot say enough about the staff here. They were very prompt with answering my Emails before we arrived. Our flights got delayed and they were kind enough to move around our reservation dates at the last minute, no questions asked. The property is beautiful, serene, and quiet. The room was absolutely spotless and the fire place in our room was an amazing way to end each day. The breakfast included at the Colonial Café was just as wonderful. I'm very picky when it comes to customer service, as I work in the service industry. I'm here to tell you that these people know customer service to perfection! Its a nice, central location. I would not stay anywhere else in Stowe!!

Room Tip: We stayed in a mini suite. Had a balcony and a wonderful wood burning fire place.

We booked our stay based upon the largely positive reviews on this site. We found that the location and leisure facilities were very good. Overall though we were not left with a positive feeling following our stay and we wish that we had stayed elsewhere...

Firstly, the rooms themselves are in need of an upgrade and are very tired. Furthermore, our room was very noisy. The 'motel' style layout of the property where your car(and therefore other guests vehicles) are parked literally outside your door is not conducive to a good nights sleep. We also had an issue whereby an alarm had not been turned off in a neighboring room and the walls between the rooms clearly must be thin, as the alarm sounded as if it could have been going off in our room. This was 5 o clock in the morning, we called the front desk to have this resolved but no one answered until after 6 o'clock. It is worth mentioning that the member of staff answering this call, neglected one crucial word in this call 'sorry' and was instead curt and generally unpleasant.

Breakfast was not included in our rate although we did visit the cafe on one morning, but not again for the second night of our stay. The food was perfectly acceptable but the atmosphere in the cafe was quite 'stuffy'.

Overall we were very dissappointed and would not stay at this property again.

We appreciate your feedback regarding your stay in September. It is our goal to provide every guest with a wonderful vacation experience and we are sorry to have disappointed you. We apologize for the issue with the alarm clock. Our overnight person may have been setting up the morning coffee when you called, which may explain where the service broke down. We will be sharing your feedback about the alarm clock incident and café atmosphere with our staff as part of our on-going training, emphasizing the importance of responding in a timely manner, and being gracious and polite when doing so.

We are in the process of updating our rooms, and it sounds as though you were in a room that we have not yet gotten to. We’d be happy to invite you to return and try one of our upgraded rooms the next time you are in Stowe.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. Although the furnishings were dated, the room size was perfect for a family of five and everything worked properly (water pressure, water temperature, thermostat, etc.) I've read criticisms of the breakfast at the restaurant but we loved the breakfasts, especially the daily specials. We made sure at least one person got the daily special and they were all delicious - stuffed French toast, Greek omelet, or cinnamon apples over French toast - yummy! Plus, their wheat toast was also great. The indoor hot tub, gym, and indoor pool were a nice touch, given that it was so cold the first few days of January. The kids also enjoyed playing ping pong, foosball, and knock hockey in the game room. I would stay here again. Thanks for a great stay!

I think we lucked out and had the best room of the bunch; 228! The WiFi was a little spotty, but the towel warmer quickly made up for that. The beds are dreamily comfortable, and with the Colonial Cafe just across the way, a delicious, hot breakfast made for an exceptional morning rise. The resort is also walking distance to three pubs!

The fitness center is kind of weird, but the hot tub was nice.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the building adjacent to the dog rooms and near to the Colonial Cafe.

We stayed at the Golden Eagle Resort during a family ski trip between Christmas and New Years. This is obviously a high-priced time of year, but for a reasonably sized bedroom plus living room Golden Eagle was a great value. The room was clean and functional. The carpeting and furniture hadn't been updated in a while, but that's about what you want for a room your going to be heading into after skiing. The bathroom had excellent water pressure and plenty of hot water, and the room had separate heating controls for the living room, bedroom, and bathroom. All perfect for a family ski trip. The rooms were cleaned well each day after we had tracked in sand and salt from the day before. It takes about 10-15 minutes to drive to the mountain from Golden Eagle.

The resort has a friendly feel and provides slightly discounted lift tickets for Stowe. They have coffee available all day and cookies and hot chocolate in the afternoons. Two afternoons they had smore makings available over a wood stove fire. Sleds are available for use on a small hill.

A recreation building had some video games for kids, a ping pong table (but no intact ping pong ball one afternoon), a reasonably large pool, a nice hot tub, and a small fitness room. The building has an attendant with towels, and there are lockers available. All very easy and functional.

The Golden Eagle Colonial Cafe (breakfasts) gets separate reviews on TA, but we had breakfasts included as part of the price so I'm going to review it here. Despite the remarkably positive reviews, it was actually pretty mediocre. None of the food or coffee was all that good, and the service was scattered though friendly. We've had much better breakfasts in the Stowe area.

I'm not sure how Golden Eagle performs as a non-winter destination, but for a family ski trip it was wonderful. We will certainly go back. I'm less sure whether we will include breakfasts on future trips, but the ease of eating there before skiing may overcome the mediocre food quality. Although this is not a "five-star resort" I'm giving it five stars because of how well it performs for what it is and for the price.

Rented a large room with fireplace and small kitchenette. A bit outdated but plenty of room and had fireplace, bureaus, tv, etc. Breakfast of up to $10 included. Breakfast the first day was o.k. Took a long time for the food and it was warm, not hot, and so-so. Maybe a different chef the next day as the food was much better and cooked to order (the over medium eggs did not have runny whites this time). Staff at breakfast is friendly. Front desk staff excellent and helpful at all times. Gave us good recommendations for dinner and made the reservation, had discount lift tickets, told us where to get sundries (underwear), and have coffee, tea, cocoa and cookies in lobby daily. Made use of the hot tub every day. Small gym with minimal equipment and at least 1 cardio machine. Spa massage available.
