“Great location-rustic charm”
Reviewed July 25, 2011

I had stayed at this resort 5 or 6 years ago. I remember it being in a great location, reasonably priced and a variety of outdoor summer things to do. Not too much has changed since I was last there. The rooms aren't fancy but the hotel does not advertise that they are. I found them to be adequate for our needs. We stayed in a room called the Matterhorn-it had a seperate sitting area-it was like an efficiency apartment-it did not have a kitchenette but it was equipped with a microwave, coffee maker and a refrigerator. The Colonial Cafe was wonderful (as I had remembered it) for breakfast-great food and service! The Manger's Reception is a nice thought but should probably be represented by someone other than the manager as he was not very friendly-maybe he was having a bad day- I did comment about this on the comment card I left with the hotel front desk upon checking out.

Room Tip: hotel website or call them- worth including the breakfast

Our stay at this hotel ended up being pretty good. We woke with bugs around the air conditioning and mentioned it to the front desk and they gave us the whole night free. The bugs were not a huge deal and I am sure they took care of them right away.

This resort is in a great location (on Mountain Rd.) near everything. The rooms are nicely decorated and very private with an entrance to the parking lot. This is great when the weather is nice but in the middle of the winter when you want to use the pool or gym you have to go out in the cold. We drove to the part of the resort where the restaurant is located because we didn't want to walk in 15 degree weather. The rooms are nice but this isn't set up like a hotel with room service etc.

We have stayed several times at this beautiful resort. We love it so much that we keep coming back year after year. Our drive from Toronto is long (app 8 hours) but it is rewarding at the end to arrive at Golden Eagle Resort. The resort location is very convienient close to downtown Stowe . The walking and cycling path is just across the resort. It will take app 15-20 minute walk on the path through beautiful scenary to get to Stowe. We always take the B&B package. The breakfast at Colonial Cafe is excellent and the service is great. The resort setting is beautiful . The rooms are very comfortable and extremely clean. The staff is very friendly and trying to accomodate any reasonable requests. We enjoyed The Manager Welcome hosted by Kathie this year . Kathie is very friendly and got out of her way to satisfy our requests. It was my syster inlaw birthday and all the staff make her to feel like a "queen" for the day. We have enjoyed the daily complimentary cofee, tea and cookies 3-6pm in the lobby. We will be back next year !

I'd stayed at two other great resorts on Mountain Rd in Stowe before, but Golden Eagle was really an exceptional joy and value on our short trip in May. Yes, it's dated, but that's what we really adored about this place.

The itself room was tidy with a comfortable king bed, sitting area and desk, refrigerator, and even a small back porch. We booked the room for $98 (a pretty standard rate for the area and that I'd paid before for less-furnished rooms in Stowe) but we were surprised to find that the spacious (older-style) bathroom also included a large jacuzzi tub. The room was very clean and appeared to be arranged with the utmost care and detail, and was truly an exceptional value.

But then we discovered there was even more. The pool and hot tub (and even a small fitness room) were simply a joy. The pool room feels like a large log cabin, and the hot tub is a wonderful refreshment. And the game room, where you can play air hockey, pinball, billiards, and ping pong (either free or for a few quarters) was such a delight. We wanted to stay longer. Or, better yet, move in!

We didn't even try the breakfast or explore the other amenities. Next time we go back to Stowe, there is no other choice but to stay at the Golden Eagle!

I had the opportunity to travel to Stowe for business, knew my girlfriend loved the mountains and took her with me. We decided to stay at the Golden Eagle after looking at their website and learning about their pricing. The room was fantastic, the setting up against a mountain with trails was spectacular, the Spa was wonderful and the best part was the service. My girlfriend was so impressed and enjoyed herself so much, she's going back with her kids this August for their Summer vacation. Absolutely consider the Golden Eagle if you plan to go to Stowe, it combines the best of so many things that if you stay there, you'll be extremely pleased.

The Golden Eagle Resort was really convenient to Stowe Village and Waterbury. The room was nice and the bed was really comfortable. It rained all weekend, but we got to enjoy the indoor swimming pool and game room. The people at the front desk were helpful and friendly and there were great guides to the area in our room. We had the breakfast package so breakfast at the Colonial Cafe was included and it was delicious. Overall, it was nice & quiet and we really enjoyed ourselves. If we are ever back in Stowe, I would definitely stay at this resort again.
