This was our first stop on a 2 day brewery tour in March 2008. This place was just as I had imagined. The gift shop was huge and it has something for everyone. You can go to the front and get as many samples as you want, I think they had 12 beers on tap and the bartender is knowledgeable about each and every beer. We made it for one of their tours, which was rather boring. It’s pretty much one guy who talks about this history of magic hat, how beer is made and doesn’t have a good reason for why #9 is called #9. If you have taken one tour, you have pretty much taken them all. You can take a “self guided” tour, which is walking up the ramp to see how the beer is made and watching production yourself. When we were there, they were in the middle of construction, so we didn’t get to see any beer being made. If you like beer, no matter how boring the tour, magic hat is a must see. Free beer doesn’t hurt either.

So maybe the tour was boring...and factory looks like a dump from the outside....but this is one place you can't skip. I read the previous review on this place, and I couldnt disagree more.

First of all, if you plan on visiting the Waterbury/Stowe area, its only about a half an hour away. For all you beer lovers out there, here is the catch: UNLIMITED SAMPLES! Yes, for all you magic hat fans out there, you have the opportunity of tasting about eight different varieties of their brew for absolutely no cost.

The decor inside the tasting/visitor/store is a bit dark, but it adds to the cool-ness factor of Magic Hat. The store has tons and tons of gifts,t-shirts, or mugs you can buy (it even sells pre-mixed bread mixes). You can also purchase a large "growler" (jug of beer) straight from the tap for a lowly five dollar bill.

So maybe they liquored me up (which left me with a very good impression of their brewery), but I had a blast at Magic Hat. The tour may be quite boring, but the beer was fantastic!

It took us a while to find the brewery as there is no signs on the strip it is off of if you are headed south from Burlington. Once there, the lighting was horrible- it was like they were trying for a mood but instead it was dingy. The beer samples were just plain bad, thank goodness they were free (the stout tastes like teriyaki sauce.
The tour hostess was cocky and I left feeling like the company was snobby though the other employees seemed pleasant enough. This is one of the few factory tours we would not go back to.
