FIRST, let me disclose that I am not a wine connoisseur. I'm more apt to order a GLASS of wine with my meal than I am a bottle. I never have more than 5 or 6 bottles of wine at home and I tend to enjoy the less expensive wines over the more expensive.

With that said, I have been to a dozen vineyards in my life (Italy, Long Island, Connecticut, California and now Vermont) and this one was my favorite. I tried 8 different wines here (5 white, 3 red) for $4 and I LOVED 6 of them. That's very unusual for me. At most wineries, I tend to like one or two and I usually go home with ONE bottle, so that I can say I bought something from that vineyard. Today, I bought THREE bottles and would have bought a case were it not for my pregnant wife who couldn't drink with me and was not going to let me stock the apt with wine she couldn't help me drink.

WHAT I LOVED MOST: the wine ... very crisp and full of flavor. Not very dry. Great for amateurs like me. VERY AFFORDABLE. Average = $15/bottle

What I didn't like: Not enough people working and this was a weekday. They were very nice but too busy.

We stopped in Shelburne Vineyard on a Monday afternoon. We had gone to do a tasting, and at the time there was no one else there. We paid $3 each to sample 8 different wines from their wine list, and we each got a complimentary wine glass that said Shelburne Vineyards. The woman spent 50 minutes to an hour with us while we tasted various wines. She was very informative and told us a little bit about each of the wines, as well as different vineyards that their grapes came from. The wine list was fairly white heavy, with only two reds available due to the difficulty of growing the red grapes in this climate. Although I don't love white wine, they had a few there that I liked. They also offered tastings of two different kinds of Ice Wine, both of which were delicious, and an Ice Cider. The building was gorgeous, and the staff was very helpful. I would recommend them strongly, and would go again.

Stopped at this small winery after a visit to Shelburne Farms up the street. It's new, and has a nice large central tasting room. We stopped in to do a tasting and get a bottle for a gift.
No one was visiting when we showed up...with no music or anything, the place seemed sorta quiet. We paid $5 each for a tasting, which was 5-6 tiny samples of their wines.
The thing that really put us off about this place was the server. She was a 20-something young lady who seemed sorta peeved that she had to serve us. Each wine was intro'd with what had to be the shortest explanation we've ever heard at a tasting. Then, while we were tasting each wine, trying to make small talk in this empty place, she was texting someone! At first I thought she was just responding to a message and would stop and at least TRY to pay some attention to us...but no, she kept it up the whole time we were there; pretty much standing right in front of us, totally oblivious to our presence. I was ticked at first, cause it was so rude...but after awhile it was funny, and we had to try to keep from laughing at it all. We have an 18 year old, so we're well-accustomed to how kids text all the time....so it's nothing new to us. We just didn't anticipate this happening in a place that's trying to earn some customer good-will. We quickly ended this very uncomfortable tasting, bought the cheapest bottle they had, and got outta there. We cracked up once we hit the parking lot.
So, lesson learned. We've done tastings from Napa to Austria, and have never had that happen to us. If I were the owners of this winery, I may want to get the help to at least try to show they give a you-know-what about the customers.
Maybe you'll have better luck than we did with the Shelburne Vineyard. it could be we just caught somebody on a bad day.
