What began as folding chairs (brought our own pillows) in rented spaces where we could watch foreign films,Catamount has evolved into comprehensive arts organization. Catamount's home,( venerable old Masonic Lodge), celebrates tradition of re-dedicating old public (ish) spaces to new public uses.
The Met Opera simulcasts, educational offerings and galleries devoted to local art makers all contribute to the value of this entity to Northeast Kingdom community.
Now that road work's complete, "downtown" St. Johnsbury - the access to the few remaining (and surprisingly good) restaurants and shops will doubtless fuel another phoenix like rise from dereliction and poor public planning anchored by Catamount.

My husband and I have been members for 12 years and have enjoyed all of Catamount's cultural offerings: films, the art gallery, live performances, and film discussions. To have an independent cinema in town with two screens showing indy and foreign language movies is fantastic! I recommend signing on to their emailing list, or better yet, become a member if you live within driving distance.

This edifice, that used to be The Masonic Lodge, is the home of The Northeast Kingdom's performance coordinators. Because of their determination to make Saint Johnsbury a destination for people who value "the arts", a tremendous array of stars is presented throughout the year in a variety of venues throughout the area. We are blessed with talent in these mountains. Local professional and amateur musicians and actors perform here or in many of the local churches or reconfigured buildings up and down the river valleys. First Night on December 31st. should not be missed! Keep an eye on their website for events, and circle your calendar. You will be glad that you did.

The theatre was wonderful. It has charm and history and the shows are fantastic . We drove up from RI to see Pink Martini twice, the prices are soooooo reasonable, and the people are welcoming . If you get the chance, definitely catch a show here.

Very small theater that is playing current movies at a very inexpensive price!! Even the refreshment stand was great! Highly recommend this when you run out of outdoor things to do!
