“Nice hotel, close to skiing”
Reviewed January 23, 2014

Overall this is a nice hotel, and it's within a half hour drive of Killington, Pico, and Okemo. Staying in Rutland is definitely cheaper than staying slopeside, and there are cheaper places to eat, etc. Plus you have your choice of several mountains to choose from. This hotel has a very nice indoor pool and hot tub, and free buffet breakfast was included. And when I say free breakfast, I mean real food, sitting at a real table, in a real restaurant. I hate the fake eggs and stale bagels some places try to pass off as breakfast! Anyway, I have also stayed at the Hampton Inn next door, and while I will admit that the rooms are slightly more modern there, this hotel is fine, and it costs less. Not to mention that the Hampton Inn did not have a hot tub when I stayed there.

We just returned from a two night stay at this Holiday Inn and were pleasntly surprised with our stay. We were slightly worried after reading some negative reviews but are loyal IHG Members and haven't had too many problems with the brand. The hotel was old but very clean. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were large. We expected a nice comfortable stay and we got a nice comfortable stay. The breakfast was a great start to a day on the slopes (If you aren't an IHG Member, join! Its Free to sign up and so is your breakfast!)
The renovations seemed to be complete. It appeared to us that the pool area could use a little more work. The hot tubs were not the most up to date out there.
Don't book your room at the Holiday Inn and expect The Westin... It's clean, comfortable, and a nice place to crash after a long day on the mountain!

It's a typical Holiday Inn but needs renovation which they are currently doing to this property. Location is good if you are looking for a ski weekend as it's bang in middle between killington & Okemo !! I felt it's a bit pricey for the area and the property looks run down from outside. Will probably might stay there next time but will also look for alternatives places to stay -

The hotel is nicely situated on Rte 7 in Rutland. They offer a great breakfast buffet and there are quite a few restaurants close by for dinner. The trip to Killington is easy and the rooms are nice. My biggest criticism was that the heater was NOISY as heck, but the pool & whirlpool made the nights nice! A good bargain!

Room Tip: Try and ask for rooms away from the entrances and the ice machines ... Noisy and cold ...

If you are looking for a cultural experience was personalised service then the holiday inn is not for you. I stayed here at the beginning of January and was delighted with the size and cleaniess of the room. There were things in the room that were broke, there were items, such as the heater that looked well past it's use-by-date, but all-in-all it was ok. My friend and I ventured to other hotels in the area to see what else was on offer. On the road to Killington we found the best mix of cultured hotels and personalised service. For me, if you are on holiday, don't stay at the holiday inn as let's face it, it's the same holiday inn experience all over the world. Instead, stay somewhere like the Inn of the 6 Mountains where you feel appreciated and receive a little personalised service and a genuine welcome.

My husband and I chose to stay here instead of our normal place for a last minute 2 night stay over New Year's to get in some skiing at Killington because the price was the best in the area (they offered a travel agent rate which we were eligible for). Multiple things made this hands down the worst stay I've ever had at a Holiday Inn...or any other hotel for that matter.

We always look for a hotel that has a hot tub/ jacuzzi or sauna to ease the muscles after a long hard day of skiing-- after our first day of skiing we went down to find the jacuzzis both out of order. We went to the desk to ask how long before they would be usable and the concierge told us they were working fine. When we pointed out that they were both closed with temporarily out of order signs she became snotty and told us to go find the person working on them and ask him. When we did find someone we were told 10 minutes and upon being told we could use them entered the jacuzzi with 4 hours. We all immediately started coughing and our eyes began burning and watering. Seems that the jacuzzi was probably bleached and then refilled with chlorinated water without it being rinsed first. The fumes were so horrible all of us immediately got out and we didn't return the rest of our trip. It seemed futile after the service we had just gotten to even report it. When we went to look for the sauna we then found it with a sign saying that the sauna no longer existed.

The stay included breakfast at the hotel's buffet. The buffet was what you would expect for a hotel breakfast (powdered eggs, pancakes, cereal, muffins, and bfast meats) - which is fine. What was not fine was that they had the nerve to remind you each morning to provide a gratuity for service you did not receive. The restaurant was 100% serve yourself- down to the water and coffee- yet they came over each morning with a folder and reminded you to leave a gratuity on your complementary breakfast. I'm sure what I was tipping for each day.

In terms of the room it was your average mid-grade hotel. Clean enough to suffice but nothing special or over the top. It was spacious, as was the bathroom...but the bathroom lacked heat- particularly the floors which were so cold that we had to cover the tile in towels to even walk in there without shoes.

If we had paid a regular rate for this room I would have been fuming. Definitely won't stay here again. I'd rather pay a bit more- be closer to the mountain- and have better services and amenities.

We picked the Holiday Inn primarily because we chose our vacation at the last minute and it was all that was available, although it turned out to be a good choice! Overall, the property is good--not fantastic, but it's good for a three star hotel. They are (as all reviews point out) in the process of what seems to be a perpetual renovation (based on how long folks have been mentioning this!) but it is not at all intrusive or even noticeable. The room was clean as were the corridors and pool. The location was only 20 minutes from Killington and about the same from Okemo.
I would say the biggest downside to the hotel would be the breakfast. The breakfast was exactly the same every day and the potatoes were burnt beyond recognition 2 out of 3 days. There has to be a better system so that the hostess doesn't have to scuttle around hassling people for their breakfast cards, either. That was a bit off-putting. Great fresh, raspberry pancakes, though.
