“Great!”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

Passed through Woodstock numerous times and never discovered this gem until I couldn't get a room anywhere among my regular inns. Caled Quechee Inn and they had availability. Drove from Pittsburgh (normally an 8-9 hour trip) into a winter storm that started in New ork and blanketed the rest of New England with about 8 inches of snow. After creeping through Connecticut and Massachusetts for hours (they don't bother to plow their roads in either state) we got to the Inn at midnight when most innkeepers are sound asleep. The had a night manager who also did their books at night, and he was great. He still had a fire going and offered up warm drinks and lots of conversation. Just what we needed after over twelve hours of highway grief. The inn is authentic Vermont, we loved the ambience, my partner went cross-country skiing, and we shopped in Woodstock. The manager told us that many people have discovered the Inn after the hurricane floods wiped out the bridge on the usual route into Quechee village and the detour took everyone right past the Inn, which is not at all the usual route. I'm glad some god came of the hurricane. Vermont has recovered and people have discovered this gem of an inn.

The first impression of the Quechee Inn as you drive by is how beautifully the large white house sits against the green backdrop of Vermont. Picture-perfect New England! As I stepped into the lobby the curios filled with antique knick knacks reminded me of my grandmother's home. The lady at the front desk that morning was friendly and hospitable as she gave us the room key and explained the "original part of the house, to the new part."

So far so good. The trek up the narrow steps with luggage was challenging, but not impossible and expected in an inn. The room however was disappointing. It lacked the charm I was expecting but had great potential with a little rearrangement, paint and window treatments.

Later that day, we discovered neither of the bedside lamps worked. After checking lightbulbs and wall switches, we called the front desk. An annoyed woman (not the same one who greeted us) came up to check the same things we had and said the maintenance person was not available. Later she called our room and said an extension chord and lightbulbs were available at the front desk for us to pick up and fix our lights. Really!

Even at inexpensive motels the customer service is several grades above what this woman demonstrated. I suppose I was expecting a more helpful attitude and even a new room. Also, during our two-day stay, we needed to ask for toilet paper twice and noticed the cleaning was not thorough. They failed to sweep under the beds and didn't return a used wine glass to the restaurant.

The restaurant provided a very good breakfast and the wait staff was exceptional. We also enjoyed appetizers and dessert which were very good. The restaurant lives up to the reviews we have read.

This is an inn with the potential to be grand. It needs a creative eye and some cleaning out. The fake leaf vines in the parlor need to go, but leave the bare branch vines and twinkling lights. Clear out some of the furniture and replace it with nicer comfortable couches and chairs. Some of the rooms seem much nicer than ours and I wondered if we got the one that needs the most amount of work. We'll never know because despite some friendly staff members and the excellent restaurant, at this point I do not plan to return nor would I recommend it to friends.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights this past June while vacationing in New England. It was our third time staying there over the past four years. I consider it my oasis in this fast-paced, stressed-out world and only wish we lived closer so we could stay there more often. From the moment you drive by Dewey's Pond and turn up the laneway, you know you have arrived at an idyllic sanctuary in this cozy little corner of southwestern Vermont.

Check-in is quick and friendly as Dora gives you a quick tour of your room and the Inn. The room was quiet, clean and spacious. Meals are available twice a day; a hot breakfast including incredible pancakes made with Anne's secret recipe, and a supper menu featuring local dishes as well as the "catch of the day". The wine list is quite extensive and well considered in terms of food-pairing. However, if you should require any assistance, then there's Tom, maitre d' and raconteur extraordinaire, to ably provide a helping hand.

The Inn is in proximity to several hiking trails and only a 20-minute walk from the breath-taking Quechee Gorge itself.

Our all-too-brief stays at the Quechee Inn at Marshland Farm have been the highlight of our summer vacations these past few years and will undoubtedly remain so in the future.

Room Tip: Being a 220 year-old farmhouse there are no elevators so you might want to consider booking a ground...

I recently stayed 3 nights/4 days (Thursday-Sunday) for a wedding. This was my first B&B experience. In our party, we had 2 adults & our 3 yrs old. We stayed in a king room. The room was nice & clean more than adequate for our needs. The breakfast buffet was very good. Although not a huge variety in breakfast options everything looked & tasted fresh. The best part of our staff I have to say was the staff. They were friendly & helpful whenever we needed anything. My daughter throughly enjoyed exploring the property particularly the huge field adjacent to the Inn & the pond across the road.

As always, excellent service, polite, knowledgeable staff- wonderful meals- and signature "real" maple syrup with breakfast.
So much to do outdoors- Route 4 smoked ribs a must stop if you like bbq- they will package them up to go-store doesn't look like much- but that outdoor huge smoker creates banner ribs and chicken-
Can also call an order in ahead of time for rosemary chicken from the Co-Op in Lebanon to be ready when you are - I always order one to take back to MA- just delicious- if you like maple goat cheese, this is the store to go to- ask at the cheese counter- enjoy!

We had a delightful stay. The room was spacious and comfortable. There is plenty to do nearby. Don't miss the Quechee Gorge. Bring your fly fishing gear. The breakfast has something for everyone. Mid day, they put out ice tea and lemonade with cookies. Worth the stay.

Room Tip: Ask for the Julia room. It was the old kitchen. Very comfortable.

We really enjoyed our stay at this inn set in a beautiful setting!

It is conveniently located near the town of Quechee and other nearby towns, including Woodstock.

There are safe rolling hills without a lot of traffic, ideal for biking.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the accommodations were well appointed and clean.

We did not have a chance to have dinner here, but heard good reviews from others. We will make sure to fit it in to our schedule on our next visit.
The breakfasts are very good. Annie makes excellent scrambled eggs - so moist, and the best pancakes I think that I have ever had!
