“Horrible hotel”
Reviewed June 23, 2014 via mobile

First of all the staff was friendly but the hotel was horrible. Very out dated. No microwave or refrigerator. The AC was old and made noise. The room had funny smell. The mattress was worn out and you can feel the springs. The tub flooded. The carpet needs to be replaced. I would not recommend this to anyone. Stay away from the hotel.

The efficiency rooms were pretty big and definitely plenty of room to walk around although bathroom and vanity area were small and crowded especially given the size of the room. The property as a whole is being updated and was clean. The front reception, exercise room and pool area are newer and nice as well as the outside of the property. The rooms themselves are in the process or partially updated. There was new carpeting in both of our rooms that we rented. Bathrooms and some of furniture were partially updated. Still has some old furniture to be replaced and TV's are a bit old but work. The wallpaper, yes wall paper, was peeling in a few areas and this is where an update is drastically needed as well as some of the trim areas. The crowded vanity and other counter area need to be updated as well. So I rated the place average since it still needs to be updated but the staff was very friendly and helpful, free breakfast was good and overall place was clean. When further updates are made, no doubt this will get a much better rating.

On our long cross-country trip, this hotel ranks as one of the best -- not because of luxury, but because of value and comfort. The staff was friendly. The breakfast was complete with bacon, eggs, yogurt, pastries, waffles, ... the list goes on. It has an indoor heated pool and exercise room. The rooms were spacious with comfortable beds. Even though our room was facing the highway, we could not hear any of the traffic in our room. We could not hear any of the people in adjacent rooms, either. There is a restaurant next door. I recommend you get a copy of HotelCoupons at one of the rest areas/visitors centers and use the coupon inside.

I first want to say that the woman who checked us in was so friendly and helpful as was the person stocking the food area. The lobby was very nice and looked like it had been updated. I am glad we had a coupon for $59/night or I would have been very upset at the full price of $105/night. The king room was small with no chair to sit in to read or watch TV. The bathroom was vey small and the tub had rusted cracks in it to the point I did not bathe that evening. The carpet was wore out and dirty. The sink is in the bedroom and had little area for vanity items. The hotel room was in the back away from the hwy, but a very old "motel" entrance style opening from the parking lot. We did not have a frig or microwave in the room and the TV was small old style. My husband commented that he hasn't seen a wall mounted avacodo colored phone in years. The bed was OK at best and the sheets were clean. The breakfast buffet was fine but eggs were runny and no bread for toast. All in all, for the Woodstock VT area, the coupon rate of $59 made the room OK, but if it would have been the full price of $105, I would give a terrible review.

Room Tip: Get a coupon and a room in the rear.

This motel is in an excellent area for the surrounding Woodstock area. You can walk to the Gorge and other gift shops and restaurants. The Lobby area is bright and spacious and serves a help yourself varied breakfast. The area is very clean inside and out. I would recommend a room in the back where you avoid hearing the noise out front of the highway. The bathroom is very very small and would be difficult if you were handicapped. The biggest complaint I have is there is no easy chair to sit in. There are 2 desk chairs which do not make for comfortable reading or TV watching. The girls at the front desk are very friendly and welcoming as well as being informative. The girl maintaining the breakfast area keeps it fresh and well stocked. For the money in this upscale area -- this is a bargain.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back facing the woods are much quieter. End rooms are the quietest.

First off, the service was outstanding. Young lady at the front desk was welcoming, informative, and yes, charming. Lobby area was spotless, looked recently remodeled or at least touched up, and bright.

Our room was fairly small, though not claustrophobically so. Bathroom, however was tiny. Everything was clean, bed was comfortable, and, being we had a room facing the woods rather than Route 4, everything was quiet.

My only concern was that the rooms on our level opened directly to the outside, with no buffer corridor or locked doors to prevent, or at least hinder, possible intruders. Not that anything happened, of course, but we've become used to a bit more security. We will inquire as to the availability of interior rooms next time.

And there will be a next time. We had a very nice experience here.

In addition to seeing the gorge this is a first class stopping point if you wish to break your journey in Vermont. The rooms are round the back, spacious, clean and very good value. There is plenty of parking space and a large area for kids to work off car stiffness and walk the dog. The woods behind have cross country ski trails.
There is a small fitness room and pool in the main building with an entrance reached by a covered walkway with a staircase to the main entry and breakfast area.
The buffet breakfast was excellent and all the staff met were cheerful and helpful.
After the gorge it is only a 15 min drive to Woodstock, a pretty little village worth a visit.

Room Tip: Doesn't matter as they are all alike.
