Short walk down to the river and a beautiful view from down there. The path is steep but very wide and well maintained. I would recommend, if the water is low, in wearing a bathing suit and river shoes so you (and any family) can get in and play or just hang out on the rocks. You could spend a whole day there.

Our family hiked the very easy 0.4 miles to the bottom where the views were beautiful. Our 4 & 7 year olds had NO problem with the terrain, but our 2 year old was going a little slow for us, so my husband carried him (although he could have easily hiked it). The path is a nice dirt path, clear of roots & large rocks & one could easily bring an all-terrain stroller down the path (though there are about 20 stairs as the beginning of the hike). Many people were swimming or lounging on the banks & sandbars & we made a mental note to come back and spend a day here. It is worth the stop, if you are driving by or worth a day trip, if you have the time. Just note that the visitor's center closes at 5pm (and the restrooms close with it).

We visited the Gorge when staying at Ludlow about an hour south. It was worth the visit as a day trip. There is not much happing in this part of the state in the summer so touring and hiking and nature are where it is at. The "hike" down is made very accessible from the visitors center which has very clean service, a nice little shop and a very friendly guide. The path is crushed gravel and you could almost take a wheel chair down to the bottom of the falls. No issue for anyone who can walk, limp or scoot. There are benches along the 1/2 mile walk in case anyone get's tired. Bring your bug spray!.

You can hike the trails or just walk out to the center of the bridge as we did, the view is just great.

Be sure to stop by the visitor center to pick up a map of the trails. From the visitor center, it is down, down, and more down. They thoughtfully put a bench for those that can't walk all the way to the bottom but want to rest before continuing or resting for those brave souls that do go all the way. The view from the bridge, both sides is breath-taking! Absolutely glad we visited.
