A lovely and delightful spot to spend a getaway night with 4 friends. The home is beautiful, historic Vermont and very comfortable rooms without the unnecessary bric-a-brac often found in b&b's. A glowing fire, cookies, tea and coffee greeted us upon arrival served by the very hospitable owners Arnie and Diane. A quiet, comfortable night was followed by a sumptuous breakfast made to order by Diane. They sent us on our way with the leftover scones and gingerbread. Would love to return in season to taste the bounty of their large vegetable garden.

I recently had reason to travel to Putney, VT for an art opening. So where the heck is Putney, VT, I asked? kind of near Brattleboro, but a quaint little community spread out off exit 4 of the highway, US route 91.

Since it was a two hour drive from where I live, I wanted to stay overnight, and it being Vermont, thought a small inn would be perfect. Based on reviews and photos, I selected the Ranny-Crawford House, run by retired couple and biking enthusiasts Arnie and Diane Glim.

It was the perfect choice; this federal style traditional home features 4 large bedrooms, each decorated in its own color scheme (easy to pick one from their website), a comfy living room, gorgeous formal dining room and large earthy kitchen. Warm and welcoming, I was greeted like I was visiting an old family friend, plied with fresh baked chocolate chip cookies and tea service.

A restful sleep in an over-stuffed 4-poster bed led to rising to the aroma of breakfast cooking downstairs, a table set for a queen, and great conversation while I dove into the bounty of offerings: freshly baked scones, yogurt with berries, frittata with bacon and home fries and fresh squeezed orange juice. It was like relaxing with long lost friends, and I would recommend it highly!

When we woke it was 5º outside, but inside the Ranney-Crawford B&B we were cozy - wrapped in Diane and Arnie's wonderful hospitality. The setting is gorgeous, the historic house and furnishings are lovely and well-appointed (very comfortable beds, well-stocked bookcase for borrowing; coffee, tea and homemade cookies at any hour). And the breakfasts...! Delicious cooking and homemade baking; friendly activity in the open kitchen while we were talking among ourselves; welcoming conversation when there was a lull. A great place to stay in southern Vermont at any season.

This lovely B and B had amazing Breakfast that was so good we didn't need to eat until dinner. We stayed 5 nights and we'll stay again as soon as we can. Diane and Arnie were such lovely hosts and amazing cooks. Every night we would come back and find fresh backed cookies and brownies to munch on. We loved it when we shared a glass of wine on the evenings with the hosts or shared a chat over coffee in the morning. We can't wait to come back. Paul and Jeanne

Spent two nights and added a third because the stay was so enjoyable. The rooms were clean and quiet, breakfasts truly delicious, cycling advice helpful, and conversation friendly. It felt like staying with terrific relatives. Arnie and Diane clearly delight in what they do, and they're good at it!

We just wrapped up a three-night stay at the Ranney-Crawford B&B. Diane and Arnie were excellent hosts--warm, friendly, and very hospitable. The B&B itself is in excellent condition and beautifully furnished. (Arnie made many of the pieces himself, including the bed in our room!) We stayed in Elijah's room on the second floor in the front of the house. The queen bed was very comfortable--we slept great each night. There was plenty of space to put our stuff, and to sit and relax. Although the B&B is on something of a main (two lane country) road, traffic during the overnight hours was negligible and didn't disturb our sleep in the least (though we wore earplugs just in case). Breakfasts were outstanding and varied each day. Diane is a fabulous cook; we had home-baked scones, fresh coffee/tea, and eggs, pancakes, frittata, fruit/yogurt cups, etc. No risk of going hungry! We were two cyclists and benefitted greatly from Arnie's thorough local knowledge and recommended bike routes. There was safe bike storage in the garage. The B&B is just 4.5 miles north of Putney, and ideally located for bike rides of varying lengths. We found the roads were quiet, beautiful, and generally well maintained. We enjoyed everything about our stay and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Spent 1 nice night at the Ranney-Crawford House. Arnie and Diane are very welcoming hosts, who cook a nice breakfast. The room was very comfortable, with a private bathroom. If this is important to you, ask whether your room has an en-suite bathroom, as I think some of them do not. I might be mistaken.
