I visited Johnny Seesaw's unexpectedly with a couple friends a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere inside is really nice, and the staff was extremely friendly (and genuine). Loved the food and the soups of the day were amazing!! Would visit again, highly reccomended.

My husband and I have stayed at Johnny Seesaw's a number of times... it is a well-kept, charming, typical Vermont Inn... a little rough around the edes, but a great place for families (and dogs!!)
We visited the Dorset / Peru area the week between Christmas and New Year's - we'd not been in this part of Vermont for a while, and wanted to bring our 8 year old to Johnny Seesaw's for dinner so he could experience the great round fireplace and atmosphere. Unfortunately, we had forgotten to make a resrevation, and walked into a mostly empty restaurant at 6:15pm on a Thursday. We told the host we would like to have a drink and then dinner, and he said (quite snappily) you can have a drink, but I'm sorry no dinner!!
A third of the main room of the restaurant is taken up by a small bar, couches and fireplace. We asked if we could eat at the bar or couches, and again told no. Really, all we wanted was a quick appetizer and out... the restaurant was still mostly empty when we left. While I understand not taxing your kitchen too much, just that little bit of kindness would have left us with a better impression, especially in this mostly snow-less ski season that Vermont is experiencing (read: tourism down.)
We will probably try Johnny Seesaw's again sometime in the future... but with the hopes of better treatment, and maybe a different greeter at the door (I think he was the manager.)

We ate here for New Year's Eve. The restaurant was recommended by a friend, so we didn't balk at the 85 per person rate. When we arrived, the place had a festive atmosphere, which we appreciated. They had live music, and we really enjoyed the guitar players. When we saw the menu, we were a little perplexed as it included an appetizer, a salad, an entree and dessert. Beverages were going to be extra, and a 20 percent gratuity was going to be included. I ordinarily tip 18-20 percent, so that didn't make much difference. However, all of the hosting/waiting staff had clearly started celebrating already. No one was really sober. They were very loud and messed up a couple of orders. The food was ok, but not really worth the exhorbitant price. We dined at Ye Olde Tavern the following day. Had better food and paid about a third for it. We will positively NOT be back.

Arriving from out-of-state, we decided to check out this place base on some reviews we read online. The beer on tap was refreshing, the waitress could not have been more enjoyable to converse with, and the baked vermonter chicken was a table favorite. Will definitively be stopping by again the next time I am in the area.

Here is the deal...the place is great. You can sit by the fire and have a nice drink and you can't really change that.
The food can go up or down in quality. It has gone down a bit but it's still pretty good.
