We ate here for New Year's Eve. The restaurant was recommended by a friend, so we didn't balk at the 85 per person rate. When we arrived, the place had a festive atmosphere, which we appreciated. They had live music, and we really enjoyed the guitar players. When we saw the menu, we were a little perplexed as it included an appetizer, a salad, an entree and dessert. Beverages were going to be extra, and a 20 percent gratuity was going to be included. I ordinarily tip 18-20 percent, so that didn't make much difference. However, all of the hosting/waiting staff had clearly started celebrating already. No one was really sober. They were very loud and messed up a couple of orders. The food was ok, but not really worth the exhorbitant price. We dined at Ye Olde Tavern the following day. Had better food and paid about a third for it. We will positively NOT be back.

Arriving from out-of-state, we decided to check out this place base on some reviews we read online. The beer on tap was refreshing, the waitress could not have been more enjoyable to converse with, and the baked vermonter chicken was a table favorite. Will definitively be stopping by again the next time I am in the area.

Here is the deal...the place is great. You can sit by the fire and have a nice drink and you can't really change that.
The food can go up or down in quality. It has gone down a bit but it's still pretty good.

The staff have all worked here a long time which is always a good sign. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu.
The food portions were generous and cooked to perfection. The restaurant has an authentic Vermont feel to it and a good atmosphere. It would be ideal for couples, families or groups of friends. There were eight of us on the evening we went. Two of our friends there are local and they have been going there for years and not been dissapointed. After our visit I am not surprised. Highly recommended.

The prime rib and baked potato were exceptional for any restaurant, anywhere in the world. And here they were in Vermont. The history of this place is colorful and the food and service were exactly what we were looking for after a hectic day shopping in the Manchester outlet stores. It is probably even nicer in the winter, because it started out as a ski lodge (the famous 10th Mountain Division of the US army apparently was thought up here) and the whole place looks very cosy. The food was top notch, service was personal and excellent, large portions, a new favorite. There was even live music, and it was folksy and easy on the ears.
